Liverpool transfer news: Wirtz – Leao

Here is a roundup of the top Liverpool news, gossip and transfer speculation from icfootballnews featuring the likes of Rafael Leao, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez…

There has been some shock reports in the media which have claimed that LIVERPOOL have made contact with AC Milan over a potential deal for winger Rafael Leao.

The 26-year-old winger, widely regarded as one of the most exciting attacking talents in world football, has developed into one of the most creative players in Seria A over the past few seasons

Enjoying his sixth year at the San Siro, Leao has well and truly settled into life in Milan following a 2019 switch from Lille and his performances in Italy have caught the attention of some of Europe’s elite teams, including Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Man United and Chelsea.

Leao is tied into a deal with Milan until 2028 and reports have suggested the Portugal international had an eye-watering €175m (£150m) release clause – which would have to be paid in full by potential suitors to force a move.

Tuttomercatoweb have claimed that Liverpool have made contact with AC Milan over Rafael Leao. They have reported that the Reds made contact with the winger ‘in the last hours’ as Arne Slot considers his options.

However – Milan are said to not be keen on letting him leave this summer and want to build a team around the Portuguese.

There has been some reports that Arne Slot is looking to add some more quality to that attack, and Leao could definitely do that judging by his performances over the past few seasons.

But again, he is not really the type of player that Slot needs and LIVERPOOL , he needs to sign a striker, not another winger that can play in a number of positions.

Leao would not be a better option that what the club have now and we would be shocked to see him actually make the move to Anfield.

MILOS KERKEZ AGREEMENT

Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano has opened up and claimed that LIVERPOOL have already agreed to bring Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez to Anfield.

Liverpool had a very good season under Arne Slot and brought back that Premier League title with some brilliant attacking football, while also having one of the best defences in Europe.

However – the Dutchman has alot of Jurgen Klopps players and wants to add some stars to his side that will be ‘his players’ and improving that defence, adding more depth to the side has led to speculation that kerkez is a player the Liverpool boss wants.

Kerkez has had another good Premier League season and looks like a player that is ready to make that next step in his career, with a move to Liverpool tipped for the man.

Now – Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano claimed that Liverpool have already struck an agreement with Milos Kerkez in order to bring him to the club: “The agreement with the player is done. I’m told that Milos Kerkez can’t wait to join Liverpool,” Romano said.

“He’s really tempted by this opportunity, tempted to be part of this fantastic squad, believing that Liverpool were already fantastic in the season just completed, and it’s going to be even better in the next one with more additions.

“There is a fantastic feeling at the moment between Liverpool and Kerkez. The agent is the same agent who represents Federico Chiesa, so the relationship is very good, and now Liverpool are advancing on this deal.”

Liverpool dont really need to improve many areas of the pitch, but adding a quality player like Kerkez to the side will be a very good bit of business from the club, if they can get the left-sided defender for the right price.

LIVERPOOL would be a great move for the lad, if he can handle the pressure that comes with playing for one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

LOW SURPRISED WIRTZ MOVE

Former Germany boss Joachim Low says he’s surprised Florian Wirtz looks set to join LIVERPOOL as he expected the midfielder to follow Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid.

Wirtz has scored 57 goals in 197 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen and last season won the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the German Super Cup with the club under Xabi Alonso.

Liverpool have muscled their way to the front of the queue and Wirtz has reportedly ‘given his word’ to the newly crowned Premier League champions, he would become the second Leverkusen player to complete a switch to Anfield ahead of the forthcoming season following Jeremie Frimpong’s arrival on Merseyside last week.

And ahead of his potential arrival at Anfield, Low has opened up and claimed that he is surprised that Wirtz is not following Alonso to Madrid: ‘Liverpool is a real statement because moving to the Premier League also involves a lot of adaptation and that starts with the rhythm of the game,’ ex-Germany head coach Low told Bild when asked about Wirtz’s decision.

‘But Florian Wirtz has no upper limit, he’s definitely ready for the next step. We’ve had that feeling for a long time.’

‘I just thought he’d be more likely to choose Real Madrid if he went abroad,’ he added.

‘He has developed enormously under him [Alonso] and they have a great relationship of trust. That’s very important for a young player.

‘Nevertheless, I have no concerns that Wirtz will prevail – no matter where he would have gone. He plays with a naturalness that can’t be coached. He possesses all the skills a footballer needs to be a world-class player.’

It is a shock to see that Wirtz is not joining Madrid, he is what they need right now and a player that would certainly improve that midfield. But when he arrives at LIVERPOOL , it will be a great move for the Reds.

It really is a statement signing for Arne Slot
