Central Banks: Monetary policy reviews are scheduled in the Czech Republic, Mexico, Thailand, Morocco, and Hungary. Fed officials with public speaking engagements include Powell, Barkin, Barr, Williams, Cook, Hammack and Waller. Several Bank of England policymakers will be doing so as well.
Special Events: The aforementioned citation of Fed Chairman Powell needs to be circled, as the occasion will be his semi-annual congressional testimony on the U.S. economy and monetary policy, first before the House Financial Services Committee on Tuesday and then reprised before the Senate Banking Committee on Wednesday. A session of China’s National People’s Congress Standing Committee, which is vested with huge supervisory responsibilities will run from Tuesday through Friday. At week’s end on Thursday and Friday, a summit of European Union leaders will be held, preparing that group for the coming rotation of the EU Council Presidency from Poland currently to Denmark for coming second half of 2025 that starts July 1.
Scheduled U.S. Releases: Final measurements of 1Q GDP and PCE price deflators. Monthly preliminary purchasing managers surveys, personal income and consumption, PCE price deflator, durable goods orders, advance estimate of merchandise trade deficit, pending home sales, housing prices (both FHFA and Case Shiller indices, new home sales, and U. Michigan consumer confidence. Weekly jobless insurance claims, energy inventories, chain store sales, and mortgage applications.
Euroland Releases: Economic sentiment, consumer confidence and preliminary June purchasing manager survey results for the whole euro area as well as individually for Germany and France.
Members of the Euro Area: Dutch and Spanish GDP. German, French, Portuguese, Slovakian, Italian, and Finnish consumer sentiment. French and Spanish consumer prices. French, Spanish, Italian Slovakian, and Finnish producer prices. German IFO-compiled business climate index and business sentiment indices for Belgium and Italy. Spanish, Latvian, Irish, Slovenian, and Lithuanian retail sales. Austrian manufacturing purchasing managers survey, French household spending, Dutch current account, and Lithuanian industrial production.
U.K. and Switzerland: British industrial trends survey, distributive trade survey, preliminary PMI survey results, and quarterly GDP and current account. Swiss ZEW index of investor expectations.
Eastern European Releases: Polish and Russian producer prices and industrial production. Polish retail sales.
Nordic Europe: Norwegian and Danish retail sales. Swedish and Icelandic producer prices. Icelandic CPI and unemployment. Swedish consumer confidence and trade balance.
Japanese Releases: Preliminary PMI results, retail sales, Tokyo CPI, housing starts, construction orders, corporate service prices, unemployment and index of leading economic indicators.
Selected Other Asian Releases: Preliminary Indian PMI results and India’s index of leading economic indicators. Trade balaances of Hong Kong and the Philippines. Malaysian and Singaporean producer prices. Industrial production and CPI in Singapore. South Korean business confidence and Chinese corporate profits.
Australia and New Zealand: Australian preliminary PMIs. New Zealand’s trade balance.
South Africa and Turkey: South African PPI, consumer confidence and leading business cycle indicator. Turkish economic sentiment and business confidence.
Canadian Releases: GDP, CPI and manufacturing sales, orders and inventories.
