People travel from far and wide to experience Sahastradhara’s healing hot water sulphur springs.

The mineral-rich waters are said to relieve rheumatism, joint pain, and skin ailments, which makes many visitors come to Sahastradhara.

Modern medicine recognises the benefits of balneotherapy (a traditional medical practice that uses bathing in natural mineral waters, hot springs, and mud for therapeutic purposes).

The name Sahastradhara, which literally translates to ‘thousand fold springs’ is one of the popular local & tourist attractions of Dehradun.

Sahastradhara derives its name from the Sanskrit words sahastra, which means thousand and dhārā, which means a stream or a watercourse.

Flanked by the meandering Baldi River and caves on each side, Sahastradhara has a depth of 9 metres and is renowned for its natural beauty.

Geologically, the waters of Sahastradhara emerge from sedimentary limestone layers, giving them a distinct brownish-orange hue. Over time, the deposits have created a series of caves that add to the site’s allure.

The Baldi River serves as the main watercourse, though Sahastradhara itself is not classified as a river but a cluster of waterfalls and sulphur springs.
