Summary: On our first day in Bali, we had our lunch at Motel Mexicola and dropped by Petitenget Beach in Seminyak. After the quick tour, we headed back to our hotel in North Kuta (Mailaku House) and spent the rest of the day there.
Arrival in Bali
We arrived in Bali at around 8 am, which means enough time for us to check-in at our accommodation and have a quick rest. Prior to our travel, I booked a 6-hour car rental with driver service from Klook, and set the pick-up time at 10:30 am (to give time allowance). Since we landed on time with no delay, we stayed in the airport for about an hour or so. Also an opportunity to have an unhurried breakfast, and to pick up our pocket WiFi which I pre-booked from Klook here.
The car rental service arrived 30 minutes before the pick-up time, and we find it very reliable and reasonably priced. I booked the 6-hour car rental with driver service here. Note that the rental is per zone, so I booked for “Zone 1 – Half Day” since we’re not yet going far away on our Day 1 itinerary. You can visit any place that you want as long as they are within the Zone # that you picked.
In our case, we used it to take us from the airport to our hotel in North Kuta (Mailaku House), then to Mexicola, and back to our hotel. The price is good for maximum of 3 persons and I guess it’s still cheap even though we’re just 2 pax.
Lunch at Motel Mexicola
So we went to Bali to eat some Mexican food. As ironic as it may sound, but I’ve heard this place is an unmissable when traveling to Bali.
It was quite a calm Tuesday with just a few crowd. We can hear the reggae music even from the other side of the road which gave the impression that even during non-busy days, they make an effort to make it as alive as in peak days.
A staff greeted us at the entrance and assisted us to pick our table. We went inside with half-full tummies from our previous meal just a while ago. Good thing, we also went here for the ambiance and experience.
We ordered Rollitos Chilorio (65,000), Tostada Cochinita (55,000), Taco Pollo Tinga (60,000), Chocolate Milkshake (80,000), and a bottle of drinking water (30,000). I’m sharing the prices (in IDR) so you could estimate your budget as well. They say eating here is a bit overpriced, and I agree.
While waiting for our orders, we took the opportunity to wander around the place.

Our orders are ready! The food is delicious and as expected. It’s just the milkshake that we didn’t like because it was not cold enough.
Fairly, it’s nice to have a light meal on a music-filled atmosphere as it makes the experience less overwhelming. We enjoyed the food and the joyful vibe from the other table that seemed to be celebrating a birthday. Jec even joined them singing the happy birthday song (just imagine having a highly extroverted buddy).

Just after we finished our food and paid for it (btw, I used my HSBC credit card so it could somehow cancel out some of the exchange difference through cashback), we continued wandering around the place and take a few photos. One of the things that you cannot do in Motel Mexicola is to forget documenting its picture-worthy ambiance!

More dining spaces are located outside that are perfect when the weather is nice. It was past 12 noon so no one dared to endure the sun’s heat.
After wrapping up our experience in Motel Mexicola, we took a 10-minute walk going to Petitenget Beach. Our car rental service didn’t have to move to another parking since it’s just within walking distance.
Petitenget Beach, Seminyak
Petitenget Beach is a sandy shore located in the northern part of Seminyak Beach. It has off-white/golden sands and the waves here are great for surfing. It isn’t as crowded as the other beaches. In fact, there were just a couple of other visitors during our visit.
From Motel Mexicola, we walked for a few minutes and passed by the parking area. Then we entered the beach through a Balinese Hindu gate (we thought this was the only means to enter the beach). Later we found out that there’s another way to access the beach, which is through the bridge beside the parking area.

We had no plans on swimming, we’re just after the nature stroll with fresh ocean breeze. We tried walking southwards until we reached a small river mouth, then we walked back again where we came from. We passed by some beachfront resorts and beach beds with umbrella. There are also cottages fashioned like a traditional temple.

There were not much to do here aside from a good beach walk and a bit of playing in the sands. But the beach was notably clean and wide. There are no merchants or any establishments occupying parts of the beach that’s why it felt wide and roomy. And that’s what we liked about this beach in Kuta, Bali — Big, quiet, and clean.
Around 2:30 pm, we headed back to the parking area where our driver was waiting. It’s time to take us back to our hotel and we decided to spend the rest of the day taking an afternoon swimming and relax in our cabin.
By the way, we stayed in Mailaku House and you can read about our stay in this post:
