You can almost feel the warmth of a tropical island breeze as you step inside one of our most recent interior remodel projects, a 7,000-square-foot Bay Harbor Island Residence. Inspired by the energy of a coastal soirée, this home was designed to reflect everything our clients, a family of four, cherish the most. This interior remodel, created in partnership with CH Construction, was shaped by details such as sunshine-filled gatherings, lush flora, and their colorful art collection.
After guiding our clients through each phase of the design process and navigating the expected challenges that come with any renovation, we’re proud to share the final result!
Some rooms were completely reimagined, while others were elevated through more subtle, yet impactful updates. With both intentional space planning and carefully curated design choices, every corner of the home was considered. The result is a cohesive, inviting space that feels not only refreshed but truly tailored to the way this family lives.
Now, it’s time to reveal the results. Let’s take a look at the stunning before-and-afters of the main living areas of this Bay Harbor Island home. Let’s get started!
A strong first impression sets the tone for the entire home, which is why the foyer is so important. In this Bay Harbor Island residence, we started with existing clean lines and a neutral palette and elevated each element to make this space feel warmer and more celebratory.
We love an open and airy layout for a foyer, but this one was ready for some personal upgrades. We decided on a design that would make it more engaging to match the spirit of our clients.
Here, you catch a glimpse of a few pieces from the family’s art collection. Designing around our clients’ collections is one of our favorite ways to bring both color and personal meaning to a home. It transforms each space into a reflection of the people who live there. Here’s another project where artwork beautifully shaped the design theme.
3, 2, 1…the big reveal! We’re so pleased with how this grand entryway turned out in this interior remodel. We leaned into the existing modern aesthetic for the stairwell, refining it with even more style-forward material choices. The floors and stairs are now unified in a soft grey tone, creating a calming sense of continuity.
We also added wood wall panels that match the existing woodwork, extending them across what was once a blank white wall. Now, that area feels fully integrated, with a hidden storage door seamlessly concealed within the panels and a beautifully designed niche featuring grouped artistic hanging glass planters that draw the eye with a vibrant pop of color.
Flowing lines and thoughtfully placed mirrors create a feeling of expansiveness while serving as a visually exciting element. It sometimes even creates an optical illusion! Reflective surfaces are layered throughout the home, making it feel as sleek and immersive as a contemporary art museum.
Let’s hone in on the stairs and what makes them so special. They are definitely a standout feature that we wanted to highlight in the redesign.
Previously, the stairs were a dark hue that contrasted with the light, neutral palette of the surrounding space. These blocks of dark and light can read as jarring. For that reason, our aim was to create a more harmonious flow, making the rooms feel connected and balanced.
During this interior remodel, we replaced many heavy, dark finishes with lighter, more contemporary materials. The blend of natural stone and wood, in addition to the tactile wall covering, creates a zen-like, organic atmosphere.
From this perspective, you can appreciate how all of the materials work together, guiding you up the stairs in this blissful home. Rather than a traditional handrail, the built-in design provides a sleek, custom appearance.
Now, onto the room where most of the entertaining will occur: the living room. We really wanted to open up this room and add not only lots of color but also texture to make it more vibrant and engaging.
The living room before is simple and minimal, and our goal was to transform it into a warm sanctuary for our clients and guests. In addition to completely redoing this space, we also added an office space (where you see the white door in the far corner).
Here is the finished result! The mix of details such as natural materials, textures, and beachy elements plays off the incredible views outside. You have to take advantage of the water when you are living somewhere as beautiful as Bay Harbor Island!
To create this tropical living room design, we layered neutral tones, such as taupe, beige, and white. We also brought in additional seating to facilitate a layout that is more supportive of conversations. We added a wooden treatment to the far wall to warm up the space and tie it in with other parts of the home, like the stairs.
This floating shelf wall provides a really beautiful design moment that allows our clients to admire their personal treasures. From wood to stone, woven stools, and wispy dried foliage, the many textural pieces are endlessly interesting to look at. A few sculptural accents add a finishing touch of artistic, global charm.
From this angle, you can see the office space through the open doors. Take note of the circular ceiling detail, which is mirrored by the large, rounded area rug below. We especially loved the detailing on the fourth wall, a feature never overlooked by our design team. These softly curved elements provide balance, offsetting the strong linear lines of the staircase.
The final space we’ll share with you today is the dining room. This room’s transformation focused more on decorating than a complete redesign. We refreshed key elements to elevate the overall aesthetic, creating a warm, inviting setting where the family and their guests can gather and dine in style.
In this space-conscious room, we kept the original table and chairs and added new lighting, window treatments, and artwork. We also added a dining room buffet for additional storage.
The result is a modern jewel box! To add softness to the mid-century modern furniture, we chose a floaty gem-inspired chandelier that brings an ethereal glow to the room.
The large red abstract artwork creates a striking pop of color, immediately capturing the eye as you walk into this room. We love how this space now feels highly curated and unique.
