As I continue to create storytime lesson plans, it sometimes gets a little more difficult to find themes that are new and exciting! But, I’m really excited about today’s theme – yarn. This turned out to be a really sweet and cozy storytime lesson plan that would definitely work during the winter. And I know books like The Mitten are classics, but sometimes they just aren’t that great for storytime because they are extremely text-heavy. Why not try it as a story you share as a flannelboard and tell it yourself? Jan Brett’s website has a free printable for all the pieces you need!
Keep thinking of ways to make storytime exciting for you, because when you do, the kids will feed off that excitement and be just as excited as you are! Try new songs or a flannelboard story, or add a craft or bubbles. While it’s important to keep some aspects of storytime similar (because kids also thrive on structure), trying new things may also help connect kids to the program in new and different ways! Let me know how it goes in the comments!
