As the nation observes National Volunteerism Month, SM Cares stands as a shining example of how collective action and heartfelt service can help build a more compassionate, resilient, and sustainable Philippines.
Through year-round initiatives powered by SM employee-volunteers, tenants, and community partners, SM Cares has mobilized thousands in a shared mission to uplift lives, care for the environment, and empower the youth. These efforts go beyond token gestures—they reflect a deep-rooted culture of service that continues to ripple through every SM community.
Year of Impactful Service
In 2024 alone, more than 1,500 SM employees took part in various service-driven programs including Brigada Eskwela, Operation Tulong Express, and inclusive events such as the Happy Walk and Angels Walk—celebrations of resilience and support for children with special needs.
Environmental advocacy also took center stage with coastal cleanup drives rallying over 27,000 volunteers across the country. In collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and other local partners, these cleanups not only restored coastal ecosystems but also raised awareness about sustainability and responsible citizenship.
Equally inspiring was the Global Youth Summit, which gathered around a thousand student leaders and youth volunteers. Through this platform—co-organized with the Global Peace Foundation—young changemakers explored social issues, developed leadership skills, and pledged to be active stewards of progress.
Building a Culture of Compassion
SM Cares’ approach to volunteerism isn’t just about numbers—it’s about empowerment and inclusion. Every program is an opportunity for individuals to find purpose in service, from mall employees and tenants to everyday shoppers.
“These programs remind us that everyone has the power to make a difference,” shared Steven Tan, President of SM Supermalls. “Through volunteerism, we build bridges of empathy, understanding, and shared purpose. SM Cares is proud to cultivate this culture of giving back—one where everyone, regardless of age or ability, can take part in creating a better future.”
Be Part of the Change
With a robust lineup of upcoming initiatives, SM Cares invites the public to join its growing volunteer community. Whether you’re passionate about the environment, youth empowerment, or inclusive development, there’s a place for you in SM Cares’ mission.
