Langtang Valley Trek — Trekup India


Unknown to many is Langtang National Park’s spectacular Langtang Valley trek, boasting incredible beauty that is easily reachable from Kathmandu, Nepal, and is relatively straightforward. Although this trek offers many attractive qualities, it remains relatively unknown and offers a peaceful experience with few crowds. Along its path are remote villages hidden in the landscape, expansive terraced mountains, and deep gorges – an experience sure to charm. The trek offers an unforgettable journey through pasturelands populated with grazing yaks, verdant forests, and snow-covered glaciers, providing an overview of all three climate zones found within this valley. Moving along the riverbanks, this trek ascends steadily through oak and rhododendron forests to alpine meadows and high-altitude pastures before eventually arriving at Kyanjin Gompa (3,860 meters). From there, various day trek options provide opportunities for further discovery. Langtang Valley, home to just under 1000 residents, was devastated by the 2015 earthquake but has been steadily rebuilt after suffering further destruction by an avalanche. Home to an abundance of plant and animal life – including several endangered species such as Himalayan red pandas, pikas, and black bears – Langtang Valley provides an unforgettable blend of natural beauty and cultural riches within an attractive travel package that provides plenty of unforgettable experiences in a short period. Day 1 Arrive in Kathmandu (1,330M)

On your first day, you will travel to Kathmandu’s bustling capital city. Here, the streets are alive with color and bustling with shops selling trekking and climbing gear, tourist hotels and cafes offering breathtaking mountain views in the distance, while Indian currency can also be accepted here; however, it would be wiser to exchange for local currency to ensure smooth transactions while trekking or visiting teahouses higher up in altitudes.

Day 2 Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550M)

At Kathmandu, we embark on an impressive 120-kilometer trip that spans seven to eight hours, traveling by road to Syabrubesi at the gateway of Langtang Valley treks. Along rugged serpentine roads, we witness breathtaking vistas of majestic mountains such as Manaslu, Annapurna, and Ganesh Himal before making camp at our cozy tea house in Syabrubesi for the night.

Day 3 Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,380M)

Following a hearty breakfast, we set off on a 6-hour trek along the Langtang Khola. Today’s route traverses lush temperate forests where oak and rhododendron trees thrive; undulates through jungle with climbs and dips; before crossing a bridge that crosses over Langtang Khola and leads us across to its other bank where an ascendant path gradually steepens until reaching Lama Hotel, where a cozy tea house awaits our arrival for overnight accommodations.

Day 4 Lama Hotel to Mundu (3,543M) via Langtang village (3,430M)

Today’s trek entails an elevation gain of over 1,000M and will present us with a challenging trek, yet beautiful mountain scenery will provide welcome respite. After ascending Ghoda Tabela, we see snow-capped peaks from the Langtang range that range from 5,500M to over 7,200M as our route winds its way along an expanding valley past temporary herding settlements and picturesque Buddhist monasteries before finally arriving at Langtang village which was rebuilt following 2015 earthquake before proceeding further to Mundu for overnight stay.

Day 5 : Mundu to Kyangjin Gompa (3,870M)

Today we will have a 2–3-hour trek, taking us to our highest altitude yet on this trek. After enjoying breakfast, we will head toward Kyangjin Gompa – an important monastery in the area – passing typical Nepalese landscapes such as water mills, prayer wheels, and sacred chortens along our path. Additionally we will see Nepal’s largest mani wall made out of stones inscribed with prayers; after our trek concludes we’ll enjoy exploring Kyangjin Gompa as well as taking in views of surrounding mountains peaks from Kyangjin Gompa before spending afternoon exploring Buddhist shrine and discovering Buddhist shrine within Kyangjin Gompa as well as exploring Buddhist shrine inside Kyangjin Gompa itself and enjoying views.

Day 6 Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2,380M)

After enjoying a satisfying breakfast at Kyangjin Gompa, we start our 6-7 hour trek back downhill towards Lama Hotel. Along the way are lush forests and picturesque Tamang villages offering insight into local culture; further downhill are breathtaking views of Himalayan mountains that were hidden during ascent; passing through picturesque Tamang villages offers unique insight into local traditions; finally we end our trek by staying the night at Lama Hotel before calling it a day!

Day 7 Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi (1,550M)

Returning to Syabrubesi typically takes 5-6 hours. Along the way, we pass through Bamboo and Pahiro villages before gradually descending back downhill towards our starting point and eventually arriving in one of the largest towns in our district.

Day 8 Syabrubesi to Kathmandu (1,330M)

On Day 4, we covered 120 kilometres over an approximate 7–8-hour journey and anticipate arriving back in Kathmandu by evening for accommodation.

Day 9 Departure from Kathmandu
