BRS activist dies by suicide over land dispute in Sircilla

Rajanna-Sircilla: BRS activist and former MPTC Karikeboina Kuntaiah, who attempted suicide by consuming pesticide, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Yellareddypet mandal on Tuesday evening.

A native of Ankushapur village in Thangallapalli mandal, Kuntaiah reportedly took the extreme step after being allegedly duped by a person in a land deal involving Rs 10 lakh. Kuntaiah, along with other BRS workers, had gone to Hyderabad on Monday. While the others returned by night, he did not return home. Worried over his absence, family members lodged a complaint with the police, who tracked his location using mobile signals.

He was found unconscious on the outskirts of the village on Tuesday morning. Upon learning that he had consumed pesticide, locals rushed him to a hospital in Yellareddypet, where he died during treatment.

In a suicide note, Kuntaiah stated that he had paid Rs 10 lakh to a person in connection with a land purchase. However, the land sold to him was already under someone else’s possession, and the money was not returned. He claimed that despite lodging a complaint, local CI and SI did not take his grievance seriously.

Denying the allegations, Sircilla Rural CI Mogili said no complaint was received from Kuntaiah. Thangallapalli SI Rammohan added that a case was in fact registered against Kuntaiah for selling a fake land parcel.
