Hello Family!

Welcome to Week 4 of the Embrace the Word study, “Seeds of Gratitude: Thanks and Giving.” As we approach the conclusion of this study, remember that our practice of gratitude should not end here; instead, it should mark either the beginning or a revival of our intentional efforts to be thankful. There will always be reasons to express gratitude, as highlighted by the psalmist in Psalm 100.

Psalm 100 opens with a joyful command: “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!” This psalm encourages all of creation to join together in worship through heartfelt praise. Worship is portrayed as an active and communal act—shouting, serving, and coming into His presence with singing—together!

In Scripture, thanksgiving is not solely a private act; it is often public, expressive, and filled with joy.

Psalm 100 serves as a guide for thankfulness and worship. It not only commands us to worship but also provides reasons for our worship. We are called to “know that the Lord, He is God.” Our thanksgiving is grounded in the truth that God is our Creator, Sustainer, and Shepherd. As we belong to Him and depend on Him, our natural response is one of gratitude. Remembering God’s identity—Creator, Shepherd, and King—shapes the posture of our hearts.

The psalmist invites both their original audience (Israel) and us—”all the earth” (v. 1)—to “Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise.” The “gates” and “courts” refer to the entrances of the tabernacle or temple complex, specifically the outer and inner courts where the community gathered for worship and sacrifice. This invitation is not just about the physical act of entering; it embodies a particular attitude. As we approach God, we bring our gratitude, mindful of His goodness. Thanksgiving has the power to reshape our perspective, shifting our focus from what we lack to God’s provision, mercy, and steadfast love.

The psalm concludes with a reminder to celebrate God’s faithfulness. The Lord’s love is everlasting, and His faithfulness endures through all generations. Our gratitude is not just for a single blessing, but for the unwavering character of God. This generational faithfulness encourages us to join a long line of thankful people who have experienced and proclaimed God’s goodness.

Psalm 100 invites us to embrace a spirit of thanksgiving that is grounded in the nature of God. Let this gratitude influence your words, your worship, and the way you serve others—both today and every day. May we always “give thanks to Him and bless His name!”
