European Influences
Hillbrook Inn
Hillbrook Inn is quite possibly one of the most romantic places to stay in West Virginia. This European-style bed and breakfast features 11 rooms and cottages situated on 30 acres of historic grounds. During our stay at Hillbrook Inn, we enjoyed wandering through the fairy-tale cottages and butterfly-filled gardens. Dining at the on-site Redbook Restaurant was an elegant and intimate experience not to be missed.
In our opinion, the best thing about Hillbrook Inn is that it is dog-friendly! It is not easy to find a luxury bed and breakfast that welcomes our four-legged friends. We were thankful to finally find a luxury B&B that we could share with our pup (who travels almost everywhere with us).

Bavarian Inn
While European-style lodging is not common in the United States, West Virginia has two incredible options, Hillbrook Inn and The Bavarian Inn. Compared to the more intimate Hillbrook Inn, The Bavarian Inn considers itself a boutique resort with amenities like the scenic Infinity Pool overlooking the Potomac, the Bavarian Brothers brewpub, and outdoor beer garden.
The Bavarian Inn is one of the top luxury resorts in West Virginia having received many prestigious awards including the AAA Four Diamond and Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence.

Other Unique and Unusual Airbnbs in WV
Castle Studio
Did you know that you don’t have to travel to Europe to stay in a castle? You can have a small castle all to yourself in Red House, West Virginia. The owners of this unique Airbnb converted an industrial garage into a castle-themed studio space. 3 beds share one large living space and there is an additional ballroom-style entertainment space.
The Castle Studio is a popular rental with families…and DnD players.

Charming Barn Loft
If you are looking for an adventurously romantic stay near the New River Gorge National Park, look no further than the Charming Barn Loft. The soft white canopy bed is the centerpiece of the barn loft. The room is adorned with delicate twinkle lights and chic vintage decor.
Now that I’ve sold you on the charm, it is important to note that the owners “consider it an upgrade from camping on the ground.” The barn is not insulated nor is there heat. There will be bugs and possibly a friendly visit from a barn cat.
That aside, the Charming Barn Loft is an excellent choice for adventurous couples seeking a unique place to stay in West Virginia.

Light Horse Inn
The Light Horse is a famous hotel in West Virginia, however what makes this hotel a truly unique stay is its over 225-year history. Light Horse opened in the late 1780’s as an inn (originally The Keyes Inn), tavern, stagecoach stop, and post office.
