Brecon Helles Lager

Yet another Welsh beer and another pretty good one as well, billed as a Helles lager, well, not a patch on German Helles lagers but not to say it wasn’t enjoyable.

From Brecon Brewing Ltd, this Welsh take on an Helles style lager was sort of interesting. It was a little vibrant, lightly hopped and had a crisp refreshing finish and 4.5% abv

Was it a Helles lager, in my opinion , not really, but it was nice as a stand alone lager, if a little too bright almost with an effervesence.

I enjoyed it

Bavaria Lager Holland

One I picked up from ‘Home Bargains’ for around £1.40 and to be honest it was just a run of the mill lager.

It’s 5% abv but doesn’t feel like it, a tad thin and watery, maybe a Party beer something that’s easy to drink. I’ve seen other reviews and they all say it’s very light in taste and flavour , nothing more I can say about it.

Budvar Dark Lager

Back to some decent beer and something I’ve not tried many of, that being dark Lagers.

This is a Czech-style dark lager on the back of their excellent straight Budvar lager (which I love ) is certainlty different.

In the glass it very dark a little Porter like, using dark roasted malts, with aromas of burnt caramel, maybe even a hint of chocolate, but as funny as it sounds it still has that crisp lager taste with the richness of a dark beer, an abv of 4.7%.

Anybody not tried a dark lager I urge you to get down to ‘Home Bargains’ pick up a bottle of this and try it, again around £1.47 for a 500ml bottle.

Excellent !!
