What Is The Nintendo Switch 2 Handheld Mode Boost?

It’s a feature Nintendo added to the Switch 2 with the 22.2.0 firmware update. One of the best updates yet, the new firmware allows your Switch 2 to play Switch 1 games as if they were being played in TV mode.

What does this mean, and why is it good?

In short: the frame rate and resolution boosts that many Switch 1 games enjoyed while docked, which could often be substantial, can now be experienced in Switch 2’s handheld mode.

For example, games such as Xenoblade Chronicles 2—that had resolution and performance issues undocked on Switch 1—will now perform significantly better.

Just keep in mind that the attached Switch 2 Joy-Cons will be treated as if they were a Switch 2 Pro Controller, and any touch screen functionality won’t be usable.
