WASHINGTON, DC – West Virginia Senator Jim Justice warned against the proposed cuts to SNAP, a program that tens of millions of Americans rely on for affordable groceries. Justice cited the devastating impact these cuts would have on everyday Americans:
“If we don’t watch out, people are going to get hurt, people are going to be upset. It’s going to be the No.1 thing on the nightly news all over the place…”
That all, despite the fact that House Republicans signed off on the largest cuts to SNAP in history – a bill Trump has endorsed already. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates 3.2 million adults, including 800,000 parents of school-aged children, would be kicked off SNAP as a result of the “Big, Beautiful Betrayal”.
Justice is one of several Senators that have voiced their opposition to cuts to programs like Medicaid and SNAP in the reconciliation package – and could be decisive to ensuring tens of millions of Americans don’t lose the benefits they rely on for healthcare or groceries.
