Air Fryer Chicken Patties – The Country Cook

Air Fryer Chicken Patties are made with ground chicken, a blend of seasonings, and some Parmesan. Perfect for chicken sandwiches for dinner!

A HOMEMADE CHICKEN BURGER RECIPE

I was hesitant to call these chicken patties because I didn’t want people to confuse them with the chicken patties (chicken croquettes) that are like salmon patties. These chicken patties are the kind that are like hamburgers, but made from ground chicken. Making these homemade chicken patties in the air fryer helps them to come out so juicy and tender! They cook up quickly too! You could even slice them up and use them in a salad. I am so happy with how flavorful these turned out, I think you’re gonna love it once you try it!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Are these sandwiches best served warm or cold?

These Air Fryer Chicken Patties are best served warm.

What to serve with Chicken Patty Sandwiches?

I think of them like hamburgers so serve with whatever you normally serve with hamburgers: french fries, tater tots, etc.

Can I make Air Fryer Chicken Patties in advance?

You can make these in advance and refrigerate until you are ready to cook.

Can I freeze these chicken patties?

You can freeze them for up to 1 month. After forming the patties, place some parchment paper in between them and place in a container or freezer bag. Thaw before cooking.

What toppings go best on a Chicken Patty Sandwich?

You can add any toppings to the sandwiches, onions, peppers, pickles are all delicious options. You can also serve these with ranch dressing or a spicy mayo.

How can I make these have a crunchy coating?

If you want a crunchy exterior to these, you can dip them in egg and coat them in breadcrumbs.

What type of Air Fryer should I use?

I used a 6-qt basket style Air Fryer. This is the most common type and size of Air Fryer used in the U.S. and Canada, which is where most of my audience lives. If you have a different style of Air Fryer, or a larger (or smaller) basket, you may need to adjust the cooking time. Always use a meat thermometer to ensure your patties are cooked through and safe to eat (165F degrees.)

What’s the best way to store and reheat leftovers?

Place these in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 4 days. When reheating, I recommend disassembling the sandwiches and only reheating the chicken. Reheat back in the air fryer or in the microwave until heated through.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)

  • ground chicken – ground turkey could be substituted or even ground pork. They are all lean meats so cook up very similarly.
  • Italian breadcrumbs – you can use regular or panko. I think the Italian breadcrumbs give it that small little bump in flavor.
  • grated Parmesan cheese – you can freshly grate it or just use the stuff in the green bottle.
  • mayonnaise– trust me, this is the key to nice moist chicken patties. The mayo helps keep them moist while they’re cooking in the Air Fryer. I use that same trick when I make my Air Fryer Salmon Patties– soooo good!
  • Dijon mustard– if you can’t use Dijon mustard, I would just leave it out. I don’t think swapping it with regular, yellow mustard would work. It would end up a bit too tangy.
  • garlic powder, onion powder, paprika – this is my standard trifecta of seasoning, you can certainly season it how you prefer.
  • chicken bouillon powder– check your local grocery stores spice aisle to find this. If you need help, you can buy Chicken Bouillon Powder online (not a paid affiliate link.)

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER CHICKEN PATTIES

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, Italian breadcrumbs, Parmesan, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, chicken bouillon, paprika, salt and pepper. Mix the chicken mixture until it is evenly combined. It will be slightly sticky and moist. Do not mix more than necessary to combine.

Split the mixture into 4 equal parts and form a tight ball. Then flatten into a patty shape, round the edges with your hands. Make sure the patties are larger than the burger bun because they will shrink a little during the cooking process. Place the patties on a parchment lined baking sheet and refrigerate for 15 minutes.

Cook for 12-14 minutes. Flip halfway through and brush the flipped side with olive oil. Check that the temperature reaches 165°F. Allow the patties to rest for a couple of minutes.
