Crumbl Oreo Brownie Copycat – Cookie Madness

Everyone is into Crumbl these days, so when I heard there was a Crumbl Oreo Brownie I had to check it out. A new store opened near our house. So, I stopped by, gave them my $6.75 and walked out with this. The original Crumbl brownie recipe is a secret, but who doesn’t love a copycat?

How to Make Crumbl Brownie at Home

So you can see what the actual Crumble brownie looked like when I bought it. It was tempting to devour it in the car, but I made it home and took a bite. And guess what? After that one bite I knew this would be easy to copy. It tasted exactly like a Ghirardelli or Aldi brownie mix brownie. All that I needed to make Crumble Brownies at home were a few simple ingredients including Ghirardelli mix, and a Oreos a cream cheese frosting. That would also be easy since I already had an Oreo themed brownie and frosting recipe called Oreo Stack Brownies.

Baking Brownies as Individual Squares

I like the shape of the Crumbl brownies and think they bake them in disposable baking molds a little over 3 inches wide. I may order some of those for fun, but since I already have a deep square muffin tin (Celebrate It) I just used that. Plus each Crumbl brownie weighs 9.78 oz! That’s enough to feed 4 or 5 people. Smaller squares just made more sense. I knew I could get the same fudgy texture since my brownie/square muffin tin has deep cavities. If you are in the market for one, I do recommend the “Celebrate It”, sold at Michaels. I’m sure Amazon has some too.

Ghirardelli Ultimate Chocolate Brownie Mix

So making the Crumbl copycat brownies was as easy as mixing up a box of Ghirardelli Ultimate Chocolate using their directions, adding Oreos and baking as individual squares. Here’s a picture of the Ghirardelli box. From what I remember, the Aldi brownie mix from Baker’s Corner also tastes a lot like the Crumbl. Therefore, you could use that instead.

Alternative Pan Sizes

If you don’t have a square muffin and brownie tin, just bake the brownies in an 8-inch pan and cut into 4 giant brownies. Alternatively, use a 9-inch pan and cut into 9 smaller square brownies. You could also try using a jumbo muffin tin and making them round.

Oreo Brownie Frosting

The second step is the frosting, which is also easy. I used my old recipe but added a little cream cheese to make it less sweet. Then, I stirred in Oreos. The Crumbl Oreo Brownies also have a poured on ganache, which took a couple of minutes to make with just some chocolate and coconut oil. So the final copycat looked like what you see here — miniature versions of Crumbl’s.

Scratch Version

One reason I went with brownie mix is because people love it. I’ve made so many scratch brownies and love scratch brownies too. However, since Crumbl’s tasted so much like Ghirardelli, it made sense to use the box. For a scratch version, I’d use the King Arthur Best Fudge Brownies Ever recipe OR the old Cook’s Illustrated Chewy along with the same frosting and add-ins.

Ingredients

  • 1 box Ghirardelli Ultimate Chocolate brownie mix (19 oz)
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup water
  • 10 ct Oreos for the dough

Oreo Frosting

  • 4 oz unsalted butter, softened (114 grams)
  • 2 oz cream cheese, softened (56 grams)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (230 grams)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tablespoons heavy cream (56 grams)
  • 10 more Oreos

Chocolate Drizzle

  • 3 oz dark chocolate
  • 2 teaspoons coconut oil

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease 8 deep cavities of a brownie muffin pan and line each with a paper liner of some sort or a strip of parchment. Skip that step if using silicone. Otherwise, just lightly grease an 8 or 9-inch square pan.

  • In a bowl, mix brownie mix, the syrup packet that comes with it, egg, oil and water until smooth.

  • Carefully spoon the batter into the muffin cavities dividing evenly. Crumbly Oreos and put them on the top, then push the crumbled Oreos down into the batter.

  • Bake for about 18 to 20 minutes at 325 or just until they seem done. If using a large pan, go by the times on the box (probably about 40 minutes).

  • Let cool completely before frosting.

  • Beat softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.

  • Add powdered sugar and vanilla and stir, then add the cream and stir, then beat again until light and fluffy.

  • Stir in crushed Oreos. Save some of the crushed Oreos for garnishing the top.

  • To assemble, spread icing in a thick layer over the tops of the Oreo brownies. Chill until very cold.

  • Melt the chocolate and coconut oil together and let cool slightly, then drizzle over cold icing. Garnish with more Oreo crumbs. Put in the refrigerator to set.
