- Bone-in pork chops – these have more flavour than boneless pork chops and the slightly larger amount of fat on them helps stop them from drying out as they cook in the air fryer.
- Plain flour – also known as all-purpose flour.
- Eggs – I use size large eggs which weigh approx. 55-60g.
- Panko crumbs – panko breadcrumbs give the best crunch to the pork chops! I like to use the Obento brand, however you can use your favourite brand or make your own breadcrumbs to coat the pork chops.
- Parmesan cheese – use freshly grated parmesan! Pre-grated cheese does not give the same fresh parmesan flavour and contains ‘anti-caking’ agents. It often works out more expensive per gram than fresh parmesan too!
- Garlic powder – this adds a delicous background flavour to the panko coating, and isn’t as pungent as fresh raw garlic.
- Salt and pepper – to season.
- Cooking oil spray – or use normal olive oil and lightly drizzle over the panko crumbed pork chop.
Equipment Required
You hardly need any equipment to make pork chops in the air fryer, just 3 shallow bowls or plates, and an air fryer! That’s it!

Step 1 – Coat The Pork Chop In Flour
Place the flour onto a plate. Press the pork chops into the flour, making sure the whole of the pork chop is covered in flour, shaking off any excess.

Step 2 – Dip Into Beaten Egg
Whisk the eggs in a shallow bowl and dip the floured pork chop into the egg mixture, coating both sides in egg.

Step 3 – Coat In Seasoned Panko Breadcrumbs
Mix the panko breadcrumbs with the grated parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt and pepper and tip onto a plate. Press the pork chops into the panko crumb mixture, making sure each side is thoroughly coated.

Step 4 – Place In The Air Fryer Basket
Place the pork chops into a single layer in the air fryer. Spray with cooking oil, or drizzle with olive oil.

Step 5 – Cook
Cook the panko crumbed pork chops, turning over halfway through cooking, until golden and cooked through. Serve straight away.

Expert Tips
- For the crispiest breaded pork chops – cook in batches and DON’T overcrowd the air fryer basket (the heat needs to be able to circulate for the crumb to turn crunchy).
- Add your own flavours to this pork chops recipe – like dried herbs, Italian seasoning or paprika mixed with the panko crumbs.
- The cooking time of 15 minutes is for thick pork chops.
- For thinner pork chops – reduce the cooking time to 10-12 minutes.
- Serve with vegetables or a side salad – pear and rocket salad or roast pumpkin and spinach salad are especially popular!
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days.
Air Fryer Pork Chops FAQs
The pork chop is ready when it is white in colour (with no pink) and piping hot in the centre.
The most likely cause of air fryer pork chops being tough is that they are overcooked. Check them often to ensure they don’t overcook.
Absolutely! Simply use panko crumbs that have been made with gluten-free bread or use gluten-free bread crumbs and substitute the plain flour for gluten-free flour.
