Mid-morning, we started out on our exploration of Soulard Farmers Market for a St. Louis adventure. We walked through, admiring all the vibrant colors of produce, ginormous ostrich eggs, quality cuts of meats (Melody gagged at some of the options, lol). The vendors were more than helpful and ready to make a deal. By the time we were finished we had worked up an appetite and were ready for lunch. Oysters on the half shell sounded delicious and we had heard about an oyster bar being in the area.
And that is exactly where we found ourselves, Broadway Oyster Bar for some delicious cajun cuisine! We were immediately seated in semi- outdoor comfortable seating, despite already being quite busy. The serve staff was more than helpful and the ambiance was alive with sounds of music, talk and laughter, and the aroma of tasty food. To start this meal off, we opted for a dozen bluepoint oysters from Connecticut on the half shell. Carefully prepping each oyster with horseradish and cocktail sauce we were ready for this delight! Taking that first bite was literally an explosion of flavor. The salty brine, with the spice of the horseradish was off the charts! It is on my list to find out where they get their horseradish from. It is a necessity for my pantry stock! We could not decide on red beans with rice or the chicken gumbo…..so we got a cup of both! Each served up with a piece of golden cornbread, these entrees definitely answered the call of our appetite. The red beans and rice were our favorite amongst the two but both offered the cajun fix.
As we always do, dessert was ordered to take home. The couple next to us exuberantly suggested the bread pudding. How could we resist? We heeded the recommendation and are glad we did. Later that evening we warmed up the bread pudding and dressed it with the provided butter rum sauce and whipped creme. The taste and texture were indescribably amazing! If you’re ever in the St. Louis area, definitely stop by and tell them Steven and Melody said hi!
