Wood Pellets for Grilling Steak: Meaty Recipes

Cooking a steak on a pellet grill is a culinary experience that combines the rich, smoky essence of wood-fired heat with the precision of modern grilling technology. While choosing the right cut and seasoning is important, using the best wood pellets available can dramatically influence the flavor profile of your steak. With a variety of options available, understanding how each wood type interacts with the beef can help you craft the perfect steak, tailored to your taste.

Pellet grilling stands apart from other methods because it marries the art of smoking with the convenience of automated temperature control. The consistent heat generated by hardwood pellets ensures an even cook, whether you prefer your steak rare or well-done.

This is especially crucial for thicker cuts like ribeye or porterhouse, where even heat distribution prevents overcooking on the outside while achieving the perfect doneness inside. But beyond precision cooking, pellets are the key to infusing your steak with flavor. These are just a few of the recipes we offer with steak, beef, and more.

Chuck Steak Bites in a Pinch

Have you ever had to cook something for a gathering on short notice? You may not have all that much time but you still want to make something delicious? Our chuck “Steak Bites” recipe gets the job done. All you need is Chuck Steak, Garlic Salt (preferably from Lowry’s), coarse ground black pepper, and just one tablespoon of beef tallow. Additionally, of course, you’ll need our grilling pellets.

This recipe doesn’t just end in great-tasting steak bites, it won’t take you forever to cook, too. Just cut the chuck steak into bite sized chunks, making sure to trim off any silver skin/tendons, etc. Season all sides as much as you think is necessary (but consider erring on the side of being more generous), then melt one tablespoon of beef tallow in the BBQ skillet. Lastly, put the meat in the proper place and cook it only until it has an even external crust and has reached an internal temp of 150 degrees. That’s it. Your steak bites are ready to be scrumptiously enjoyed.

Super Steak Bites

If you have steak tips or a flat iron steak, check out our “Bachan’s Steak Bites” recipe as well. For this, you’ll also need our Knotty Rub, Olive Oil (preferably from Cobram Estates), garlic cloves, Bachan’s Japanese BBQ sauce, and our pellets. For this, we do recommend our competition “Plummond” pellets.

While these may have more ingredients than our last recipe, they’re also great for having great food in a hurry. It only takes a few minutes to cook – in many cases, around three to five minutes. So, you don’t want to walk away from them while you’re grilling. But, if you have the ingredients handy, these are perfect for when those unexpected party guests show up expecting to be fed.
