Ales For ALS Program | Mass Brew Bros

PRESS RELEASE / March 18, 2025 (Watertown, MA) – Ales for ALS program is a charity program where breweries receive free hops from Yakima Chief Hops (YCH), brew delicious beers, and donate $1 per pint sold to ALS research. It is a great way to raise awareness, directly support research, and bring people together for a good cause. While brewers anywhere in the world can participate, the program funds research at the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI), a nonprofit research lab based in Watertown, MA. Here’s how it works:

  • After signing up on the Ales for ALS website, brewers receive a survey to select their preferred amount of hops, ship date, and how many barrels they plan to brew
  • Free hops are shipped to the brewer from Yakima Chief Hops (YCH)
  • Brewers create an “Ales for ALS” beer and donate $1 per pint sold (or $2 per 4-pack) to Ales for ALS
  • All donations to Ales for ALS fund critical research at ALS TDI, the world’s largest drug discovery lab focused solely on ending ALS

This year, several Mass breweries joined the program for the first time, including Vanished Valley Brewing Co., Four Phantoms Brewing Co., and Murder Hill. Check out this year’s hop blend: https://www.yakimachief.com/ales-for-als-trade-blend.html

For brewers who have no room in their calendar for a special brew, there is the “Beer It Forward” option:

  • Dedicate one of your brews as an Ales for ALS beer (contact Ales for ALS for a special tap handle!)
  • Sell that beer via draft or cans and donate a portion of the proceeds to Ales for ALS

Brewers have the option to host a release party for their special Ales for ALS brew. Ales for ALS team members are available to help these events – including promoting on social media and providing raffle items and swag. Release parties are a great way to bring in new customers and raise additional funds for the cause.
