Judging for the 2025 Best of Craft Beer Awards took place this past weekend, and today the final results were released. BOCB is a commercial competition that takes place annually here in Central Oregon, and evaluates beers from across the country and beyond. This year, over 1,200 beers were entered across 45 award categories.
Along with category medals, there are large, medium, and small brewery of the year awards, based on points per total wins, and this year yielded surprise results:
- 2025 Large-Sized Brewery of the Year – Athletic Brewing, Milford, CT
- 2025 Medium-Sized Brewery of the Year – Sunriver Brewing Company, Sunriver, OR
- 2025 Small-size Brewery of the Year – Terranaut Beer, Bend, OR
Non-alcoholic brewer Athletic winning large brewery of the year is the surprise for me, with its wins in the NA beer categories overshadowing a big field of others. Interesting also to see two Central Oregon breweries in the other top spots; Terranaut only opened last year.
Full disclosure: I was a judge for one of the three days for this year’s BOCB. It was my first beer judging in quite awhile, but I can vouch for the integrity of the judging process; the organizers are careful to ensure blind tastings and judges are drawn from across the industry. It was an intensive, interesting time, and I got to judge several first-round categories, as well as a mid round category and two medal rounds. Other than the medal rounds, I have no idea how well any beers that I might have judged performed.
The full list of winners is here, with a large number of winners from California, Oregon, and Washington and a nice representation from around the country for others—including Bermuda and Peru! These are all beers you’ll want to watch for to try for yourself.
Congratulations to all the winners!
