I am most definitely not a fisherman.
I’m not really into fishing, and while I will eat seafood, I would prefer that somebody else takes care of that aspect of procuring my dinner.
But I love Sailfish Brewing. Part of it is purely sentimental, being in one of my favorite cities in Florida, Ft. Pierce. The other thing is I absolutely love how they took that love of fishing (and trust me, they love fishing) and gave it a classy iconography that is sporty, but elevated, but still not so much to be preppy New England.
It’s still Florida. And they tend to enjoy showcasing it on all of their label art.
If you take a look at the label art for their Hazy IPA (IPA, 6.5% ABV), you’ll see their signature sailfish, Florida’s official saltwater fish, with the loggerhead turtle, Florida’s official saltwater reptile.

That turtle is coming from Loggerhead Marine Life Center in Juno Beach. This fantastic location, very close to the intercoastal, is a full service marine turtle hospital and sanctuary.
If you go, and I recommend you do, pay the extra money for the guided tour. They’ll give you loads of information you never knew about saltwater turtles, and in depth look at their hospital facility, and plenty of information on their current patients.
Sailfish Brewing’s Hazy IPA was made in conjunction with the center and carries information where lucky Floridians can visit this amazing organization. Sailfish Brewing is even one of their many corporate partners.
Not only does Loggerhead Marine Life Center get an amazing partnership with Sailfish Brewing, they get a fantastic Hazy as well. It’s got a nice light golden color, very (of course) hazy, with big notes of lemon, papaya, and some pine resin.
The flavor is incredibly fruity and citrusy, with a big wash of ruby red grapefruit coming in strong, with some light lime and blood orange behind it. The Simcoe and Mosaic hops do a great job of electrifying a light, very puffy malt flavor with a nicely creamy mouth feel.
If you’re going to have a Florida aquatic experience while staying dry, it is possible to do Loggerhead and Sailfish in the same day. There’s a bit of distance between them, but they’re both fantastic champions of Florida’s natural aquatic wonders, and both absolutely worth the time.
Drink Florida Craft,
Dave
