It is with the most amazing pride that I wish to report that I get to write about a beer brewed by our very own Producer Steve.
Hopefully you are listening to the Florida Beer Podcast. If you have, you’ll notice Steve show up on occasion to join me as we interview everyone we can from around the state of Florida.
He was at Big Bear Brewing in Coral Springs for a little while, meeting with their now-former Brewmaster Daniel Martinelli, also the owner of Yeasty Brews in Lauderhill Lakes.
Dan has since left Big Bear to focus on growing Yeasty, and Steve has gone along with him, learning the system and making many many beers on his own. Since Steve has been a South Florida boy for quite some time, it was awesome that he was able to celebrate the Florida Panthers long-awaited, well deserved 2024 Stanley Cup Championship with a beer of his own, Panthers Victory Haze (Hazy IPA, 7% ABV).
As somebody who has studied the joys of hazy IPAs, and I can tell you that Steve has most definitely studied the joys of hazy IPAs, it is perfectly right down the line everything that it needs to be.
The color is kind of a light creamy yellow, maybe reminiscent of a golden curry. The aroma straddles the line between citrus and melon, not straying too far in one end and not being too crazy on the other. The flavor shows that he had really focused on finding a nice blend between the most fruit notes out of his hops (I know Cashmere was one of them) and keeping it still slightly bitter for good measure. There’s big orange and tangerine notes, in addition to papaya and honeydew. There’s a little bit of alpha acid to keep things interesting, but for the most part it is brought in and kept low.
When I checked last, the beer was still on top as well and, with any luck, something that can be either a permanent seasonal or a flat out year-round beer. But I’m very proud of being able to review his beer on the blog and it will be fun to see all the changes coming to what he has been making.
Drink Florida Craft,
Dave
