Brew Review – Party Dart by Point Ybel

For some reason I knew this can label looked familiar. Not that I have ever smoked or ever condoned smoking cigarettes, but it’s clearly inspired by boxes of Natural American Spirit cigarettes.

It’s one of those “Let’s get as close as we can to the IP as possible, but still be far enough outside the range to where things are relatively okay” situations.

But taking a look at Party Dart, things just get a little crazy.

To start, ‘dart’ is slang for cigarette. Clearly referenced on the can of Party Dart (American Style Lager, 4.2% ABV) with somebody holding a cigarette in their mouth like the peace pipe of the Native American that is on the ubiquitous box of the aforementioned cigarettes.

Party darts themselves are the safer cousin of the long illegal lawn darts, so already we have a few different avenues for taking a look.

I will say, it has a few other connotations that Urban Dictionary showed me that I’m not going to put on the blog. Let’s just move on and talk about the beer, shall we?

American lager, chocked full of barley and corn malts, is meant to be a party beer, something that is flavorful and sessionable and Incredibly easy to drink. Which it basically is.

It has a medium golden color and a light tasty cornbread sort of aroma.

The flavor is very clean and approachable. I’m a big fan of beers like this, where you have a nice lightly sweet malt bill where you can taste a little bit of the corn sweetness perched on top of a standard two-row or golden malt blend, with a slightly peppery sort of earthy hop bringing in just a touch of dimension.

And that’s basically it. That’s what it needs to be, it does a great job of being that, and it’s simple. It’s flavorful, it’s delicious, and it’s incredibly easy.

Unlike all the different ways that I can start playing around with the name. That we may have to leave aside pick up for a different day.
