Brew Review – Steve Adams by Yeasty Brews

So I don’t totally have the greatest basis for an opinion of the city of Boston, MA since I’ve never actually gone.

I do know I hate the Bruins, but that has less to do with the city and more to do with hockey in general. The people that I know have been to Boston, however, love Boston. And I’ve been told repeatedly that I would love it as well.

One of those people is our producer Steve, the current brewmaster at Yeasty Brews in Lauderhill and formerly stationed in the military in downtown Boston.

He has many stories of heading to the much vaunted Sam Adams Brewery, especially of some of the beers that are only available there.

So it was this that gave some of the impetus behind Steve Adams (Red Ale, 5.5% ABV).

To be honest, this beer was not really the intended result to begin with. The beer was actually supposed to be a more standard Amber ale they make, but a few substitutions had to be made due to a lack of materials one night, and what resulted is a very fantastic beer.

Steve is exceptionally proud of it, and I can see why. It is a perfectly malty red ale. Maybe one toe into being a Marzen or even a Vienna Lager, but it’s not quite caramely enough and not quite bready enough to really get there. If it were a little bit more concentrated, it would fit either of those perfectly.

As it is, it’s got a beautiful copper color and a wonderfully malty aroma to back up a rich flavorful beer.

It’s getting brewed again, and I don’t think Steve will ever let this go off tap. Nor should he, this is perfect and it’s every bit as delicious and should be lauded as such.

As for Boston, I’m not totally sure, I just know I can’t bother rooting for the Bruins at all.
