Texas Brewery Running Series Brings 5K Fun Runs to Central Texas Breweries
It’s been a tough month for the association between health and craft beer. The increasing prevalence of Dry January, a new Surgeon General’s advisory linking alcohol consumption to cancer risk, and looming updates to the USDA’s Nutrition Guidelines are all challenges for craft brewers. However, there are still ways to practice wellness while enjoying beer.
Enter the Texas Brewery Running Series. Over the next few months, a slew of Central Texas breweries will host 5K Fun Runs operated by Run for Beer, which began more than a decade ago in Minneapolis. The Texas chapter of Run for Beer started in 2017 and has grown to host 13 events this year. Participants complete a 5K and are rewarded with a free beer and a pint glass or branded gift. Live music, food trucks, and giveaways are also part of the package, and a portion of the proceeds go to local non-profits. Registration costs $35 (or $53 if you want a commemorative t-shirt). The organization also has free pints and t-shirts for volunteers.
