Czech beer – Rychtář Grunt 11%

Rychtář Grunt 11%

Given the number of Czech “Own Brand” and pseudo-Czech beers on our shelves, Rychtář may be perceived as one of them, as it is not particularly well known in Russia. But no, Rychtář is quite a Czech beer. The brand belongs to Pivovar Rychtář in Glinsk. The brewery was built in 1913. During its existence, it did not distinguish itself in any particular way, except for the fact that most of the time it did not fill containers, but only barrels and then kegs. In 2008, the brewery was bought by Pivovary Lobkowice, a.s., who were taking over regional breweries in the hope of creating a consortium of medium-sized brewers that would be able to compete with the beer giants. In 2015, a controlling stake in Pivovary Lobkowicz Group. was sold to the Chinese. I don’t know if Pivovar Rychtář is now operating, but the beer is produced at Lobkowicz. Probably because there is no can line in Glinsk.Rychtář Grunt 11% (Czech Republic, Glinsko) – 4,6/11 Pleasant malt aroma. The flavor is full, also malty, with a noticeable diacetyl. Nice grassy hops in the aftertaste. A typical Czech region, in which diacetyl is probably not a defect anymore, but an indispensable feature! Although, I’d prefer to have none or a little less of it. Rating “C+”.
