Mango Tango! A fiesta marking the arrival of Sesiones del Migrante Mango Summer Ale. A celebration of our essential migrant farm workers
On Saturday, May 10th, the Mango Tango Fiesta starts at noon and goes until 9:00. There will be music, dancing, food, and good vibes all day. And, of course, plenty of Mango Summer Ale, Las Mas Buena Mexican Lager, and other Bale Breaker beers. Bale Breaker Brewing celebrates the annual release of Sesiones Del Migrante Mango Summer Ale this Saturday with a fiesta at its taproom in Yakima, Washington. The beer and the event celebrate the season and honor the migrant workers who travel to Yakima yearly to plant, raise, and harvest the annual hop crop.
“Mango Summer Ale is more than just a delicious beer filled with mangos,” said an announcement on social media. “It’s a tribute to all those behind the beer, the ones who make beer possible: migrant farm workers. A portion of the proceeds of our Mango Fiesta and each Mango Summer Ale pint/can drank goes to local nonprofits here in the Yakima Valley that support migrant farm workers.”
Because Bale Breaker Brewing is located in the middle of a hop field, and because the owners have deep, multi-generational roots in the farming industry, this one is near and dear to their hearts. They know firsthand the value and importance of the folks who do the hard work. To honor and support the community of migrant workers, Bale Breaker started this annual program in 2017.
If you love beer, you owe a debt of gratitude to the thousands of migrant workers who travel to the Yakima Valley each year to cultivate and harvest hops. The Yakima Valley produces about 75 percent of the USA’s annual hop crop. It grows about 25 percent of the world’s hop crop. Most of the planting, cultivating, and harvesting work is performed by workers who travel from Mexico to do the job. In most cases, these are skilled, trained workers who return to Yakima from Mexico year after year, and in many cases, generation after generation, to help put hops in your beer. These workers often perform jobs that probably would not attract non-migrant workers. These are essential workers who contribute significantly to our economy, our community, and our beer.
Join Bale Breaker Brewing on Saturday, May 10th, as it honors and benefits the workers who help make the beer happen. The fiesta will feature plenty of beer, music, food, dancing, and good vibes.
