The only brewery in the world using Holacracy. Iron Horse Brewery. I assume you are reading this because you are either: really bored or are the type of person that when someone says ‘this smells awful’ you check it out by taking a whiff. I’m more of the latter.
I spit that assertion out the other day, only brewery in the world using Holacracy. A co-worker called me on it.
“Do you know that to be true?”
I didn’t. However, I was in conversation with GlassFrog customer service, a service provided by Holacracy so I asked them.
“Do you know of any other brewery operating with Holacracy?”
Immediate response.
“I haven’t heard of any. I will ask my colleagues.”
A few days later
“My colleagues haven’t heard of any either. You are probably the only one!”
Side note, what excellent customer service! She answered the question and followed up. Impressive.
Then, over thanksgiving weekend I encountered an old friend who works for The Grain Shed, a cooperatively owned brewery who might be operating Holacratically. And likely no coincidence, I did not (subconscious forget?) ask him if they are operating Holacratically. I think they might be but I don’t want to know so I can keep saying “The only brewery in the world operating Holacratically”
Are we special? You bet we are.
Our origins are in unconventional approaches. Self-management is an empowerment structure we bring to disrupt conventional wisdom. Holacracy helps us do it.
You might be wondering, ‘What do you do when there are no bosses in an organization that still needs to adapt, innovate and make decisions?’ Self-Management is the short answer.
Perhaps later I’ll share about the desire to not have bosses and how Self-Management solves that problem and creates a bunch more.
