The Ultimate Pub Quiz Roundup

Here we are, the day of The Session, and I asked beer bloggers and writers all over the globe to share with me their ultimate pub quiz round. You can read the original brief here. Now I’m rounding up the responses for your viewing pleasure. This is a moveable feast – I’ll add posts and socials as I spot them, but do comment below either post if I’ve missed you off!

Our session contributors for June 2025

  • Gary Gillman kicks off on Beer et seq – he would like to see pub quizzes held a little earlier in the day. What do you think of that? A trivia afternoon?
  • Steve Dunkley has written about his intense dislike of the pub quiz over on Beer Nouveau, but he did manage to pen an excellent round on Generals entitled General Knowledge, which I shall definitely be stealing for my own quiz.
  • Sean Inman gave us a US perspective on Beer Search Party. Another quiz loather, he just wants to be able to chat to the bartender or friend without interruption. Not unreasonable, say I.
  • Boak and Bailey stepped up this morning with their own memories, and thoughts, about keeping quizzes fair and fun for all. On a side note, as a quizmaster I think that the closer the scores, the better I’m doing my job. In the penultimate round this week, there was a three way tie for first place – so I think I’m making an OK fist of things.
  • Roy at Quare Swally was actually one of the first off the blocks this month. He has a secret weapon when it comes to quizzes…
  • Michael Deakin at 8-Bits and Bobs has given us a real storm of a view on pub quizzes. Well worth a look!
  • The Beer Nut is applying his extensive learning of geography and history, which his beery investigations have improved immeasurably.
  • I am extremely pleased to have tempted the MOFAD to make a return to blogging with this month’s theme. If I were awarding points, then he would be able to help himself to an extra one for the surprising, but nostalgia-inducing, reference to Rothley Fisheries, where we used to get the most delicious volunteer lunches during harvest at Rothley Wine.

The image for this post is one of my losing teams. Each week, the winners get a prize and I bring a silly booby prize for the losers. That particular week, they won a set of fake moustaches, which were incredibly well received.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
