Triceratop Brewing Hard Soda and Why It’s a Good Idea

It is a fact of life these days; people who reach for craft beer often reach for other things too. They’ve even created a word for it: omnibibulous. Also, omnibibulous craft beer drinkers often have drinking buddies who do not drink beer at all. Don’t call me a heretic, but it’s a good idea for breweries to provide something other than beer in their taprooms. It sounds counter-intuitive, but it’s not.

These days, alongside its beer, it is important for a brewery to offer something other. Intention should drive the decision about what to offer. Don’t serve trashy seltzer or cheap cider; rather, offer something that mirrors the quality of the beer. Visiting a brewery taproom is about enjoying quality beverages, beer or not.

Likewise, if you are going to make it yourself, do it well. All that being said, Triceratops Brewing just announced the return of its award-winning hard soda. Available in three flavors. I applaud them! It is available away from the taproom, too, in 16-oz cans. Given today’s challenges, this a move in the right direction. It is not a betrayal. Beer is still number one. Here’s the announcement from the brewery.

Triceratops Brewing Company Announces Return of Award-Winning Hard Sodas

Tumwater, WA (July 3, 2025) – Washington drinkers thirsty for something beyond beer will have another local option this summer. Triceratops Brewing Company, a family-owned brewery in the South Sound region, is proud to announce the return of its popular hard soda line, featuring three refreshing flavors perfect for the warmer months ahead: Blood Orange, Lemon Lime, and the award-winning Strawberry Lemonade.

Each of the hard sodas weighs in at 6 percent ABV and is crafted with natural fruit extract for a taste that’s truly authentic and never artificial. Strawberry Lemonade notably won a gold medal at the 2024 Washington Beer Awards, a testament to its exceptional quality. Highly carbonated and bursting with the flavors of zesty citrus and ripe berries, these three approachable drinks are perfect for a day on the water, an evening in the backyard, or a night under the stars.

“We’ve been producing these hard sodas during the summer for three years now with great results,” says Triceratops co-founder Rob Horn. “The goal was to make something gluten-free and low-calorie that would appeal to a younger generation of alcohol consumers. We’re hoping to add more flavors in the future, and would eventually like to produce hard soda year-round.”

While supplies last, all three hard sodas will be available in 16-ounce cans and on draft at the Triceratops tasting room (open Friday – Sunday) in Tumwater. They can also dependably be found in Olympia at Well 80 Brewhouse and Oly Taproom, as well as select accounts within the River Barrel distribution network. Ask for Triceratops hard soda at your local bar or bottle shop this summer and enjoy a craft beverage that’s light, bright, and oh-so right.
