Yokohama Lager : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Yokohama Lager poured out a dark golden amber colour with a thick white head on top that was made up of medium and large sized bubbles. Those bubbles popped away to a thin layer on top, which clung to the side of the glass during drinking.
For an IPL, I was expecting something a bit bolder on the nose, but what I got was much softer than I was hoping for. The hops were a light citrus note throughout drinking, with a light grapefruit and lemon nose. The malts were perhaps the stronger of the aromas, with a touch of caramel just cutting throughout.
The body did bring the beer back a bit with a strong bitterness to start that moved to the citrus notes found in the nose – more of the grapefruit and lemon once again. The malts were soft and with the medium body interplayed nicely with the hops. If anything, as the beer warmed up, it did verge more on the sweeter side of a lager, with the hops become secondary in the aftertaste.
Yokohama Lager : The Bottom Line
This beer won’t blow anyone away but for the price, it’s not bad.
