Butternut Squash and Corn purée for baby (From 4 Months)

Today we’re making a super smooth and colorful purée: butternut squash and corn for baby!

This easy and quick recipe brings together the natural sweetness of corn with the velvety softness of butternut squash, already one of the gentlest vegetables to introduce in baby’s diet. Together, they make a perfect combo for babies starting solids from 4 months.

The texture is silky and slightly creamy, just right for those tiny taste buds discovering new flavors. Butternut squash is well-known for being easy to digest, making this purée ideal for gently beginning the journey into solid foods.

In short, this recipe is super simple to make, uses just a few easy-to-find ingredients, and is a hit with both little ones and grown-ups. So, shall we start prepping this beautiful golden purée? 🙂

Ingredients

For one 180g (6 oz) serving of purée:

  • 120g (about 4.2 oz) peeled butternut squash
  • 65g (about 2.3 oz) corn (cooked or canned, unsalted)

Instructions

Start by peeling your butternut squash. It’s not the easiest task, but as always, I use my favorite serrated peeler, it’s just magical and makes the job much easier!

Then, cut the squash into small cubes.

Let’s steam! Cook the butternut squash for 12 minutes.

In the meantime, drain the corn and place the kernels into your blender.
(I use jarred cooked corn, but you can absolutely use fresh corn and steam it along with the butternut squash.)

Once the squash is cooked, add it to the blender with the corn.

Blend on high speed, adding a little bit of cooking water if needed, until you reach the desired smooth and creamy consistency!

If the texture isn’t as smooth as you’d like and the purée feels slightly grainy due to the corn kernels, feel free to pass the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to get the smoothest possible consistency.

And that’s it, your purée is ready! Let it cool down to room temperature before serving it to your baby.

Enjoy, baby!

Storage

In the fridge
Place the butternut squash and corn purée in an airtight container. It can be stored for 2 to 3 days in the refrigerator. Reheat it in a water bath or in the microwave before serving (be sure to stir well and check the temperature to avoid any hot spots!).

In the freezer
You can freeze the purée in small portions using baby food containers or an ice cube tray, perfect for the early stages of weaning!
Defrost in the fridge overnight or gently warm it up in a water bath just before mealtime.
