Creamy spinach soup with flaked salmon for baby (From 6 months)

Today, we’re making a creamy spinach soup your baby won’t forget anytime soon!
It’s topped with flaked salmon, two flavors that go beautifully together, and this recipe is just perfect for gently introducing fish to your little one.

This dish is super simple to prepare and works wonderfully for lunch (or for dinner without the salmon). It’s packed with nutrients thanks to the fiber-rich spinach and salmon, a fantastic source of omega-3s.

Here’s what you’ll need to make this creamy spinach and salmon soup for baby:

Ingredients

For one serving (about 180 g / 6.3 oz):

  • 120 g (4.2 oz) fresh baby spinach
  • 80 g (2.8 oz) potato (about 1 small potato)
  • 10 g (0.35 oz) fresh salmon fillet
  • 1 tablespoon of heavy cream (or crème fraîche)

Preparation of the creamy soup

  1. Peel the potato and cut it into slices.
  2. Wash the fresh baby spinach thoroughly. Don’t hesitate to rinse the leaves in several baths of water, spinach often has sand and soil that’s hard to remove!
  3. Rinse the salmon under cold running water.

Steaming

  1. Steam the potato slices together with the baby spinach for 10 minutes.
  2. When there are 6 minutes left, add the small piece of salmon (skinless and boneless). Make sure the salmon is fully cooked by the end of the steaming time.

Blending the soup

  1. Once cooked, place the vegetables in a blender (without the cooking water at first, adjust later based on the desired consistency). Blend in short pulses.
  2. When the soup reaches the desired texture, pour it into a small bowl and stir in the tablespoon of crème fraîche.
  3. Shred the salmon separately using a fork (depending on baby’s ability to handle small chunks, you can also blend everything together if needed), then place the shredded salmon on top of the soup. You can serve small bits of salmon with each spoonful.

  • In the freezer: You can freeze the soup in small portions for up to 1 month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the salmon be replaced?

Yes, this recipe also works very well with other mild, omega-3-rich fish such as hake or trout.

Can I add spices or herbs?

A pinch of freshly chopped chives can definitely add an extra touch of flavor, but make sure to keep it light — babies’ taste buds are much more sensitive than ours!

Is this recipe suitable for babies with reflux (GERD)?

Spinach can be a bit acidic for babies with reflux. You can replace it with zucchini, which is gentler on the stomach.
