Freezer Cleanout & Reorganization for A More Affordable Grocery Trip

I have a very small freezer on my dorm size refrigerator – for those that don’t know, I rent a room in a house. Once a month, at least, I go in and take everything out, wipe things down, and decide what needs to get used up.

This past weekend I did just that.

I had frozen spinach, and about 3/4 of a gallon size bag full of berries and other fruit chunks. I also had about 1/2 a cup of chopped celery and celery leaves I had put into the freezer last week and a banana I had cut into chunks to freeze. I had plenty to make smoothies. I made one to drink while working on this project, and one to put into the fridge. Then I made four more to go into the freezer for later use. The celery and banana are gone, I was left with about one quart of liquified spinach that I put back into the freezer for my next round of smoothies, and two quarts of liquified fruit. This will make things super simple when I make my next batch.

I also know exactly what I have left in there and what I need to use up. A half a bag of corn that will last just fine. A serving of goulash, and another of the corned beef meal. I also have a block of cream cheese, a partial small block of sharp cheddar, and four ounces of tomato paste.

It is important to know what is in your freezer so you know how you can cut corners on your grocery shopping bill. Why buy a whole new package of cheese when you have bits and pieces in the freezer? Is there a way you can cut the grocery bill next week with what you have in your freezer. Maybe if you just buy a pound of meat, you already have enough items leftover from previous meals and on your shelves to make a whole new meal less expensively. Give it a try. Let us know how it goes.
