Turkey burgers are an easy meal prep staple that I tend to forget about, but they never let me down! We love them here and they’re great because they really adapt easily to any flavors you want to put with them.

If you have not made turkey burgers before, they’re easy. They tend to have less fat in them than regular beef burgers (depending on what kind of ground beef you buy, of course) but they are so flavorful nonetheless.
How to adapt this recipe
As always, this recipe is VERY easy to change up based on your preferences and what’s in your spice cabinet
- If you hate onions, don’t use ’em! It will still be tasty.
- You can pair this with a salad or really anything you want on the side; pickled veggies would be fun.
- You can throw in other ingredients to make them your own.
- If you don’t have some of these spices, I bet they’d still taste good!
- You can use a real bun instead of lettuce.
- Use whatever sauce or toppings you want; hot sauce is fun if you like a little heat
- You can turn these into meatballs instead of patties, pan fry them (or bake them) and eat them with pasta!
How do you make the fries like that?
This is the eternal question I get when I make this dish! The secret is using a little oil (too much makes them soggy), and then flipping them halfway. You also need to make sure that they aren’t touching in the pan. I spent a good three minutes arranging them on the pan. It’s so important with potatoes that they don’t get too close to each other. Otherwise, they will just STEAM and that means they do not get crispy.
Also note for this recipe I happened to pick up a WHITE sweet potato. Still a sweet potato, just a different color. You can use whatever potato you want but some are better for roasting than others. This would be awesome with russet, Yukon gold or red potatoes, too. If you want to get real fancy, you could pair this with zucchini or carrot fries!

How to Store and Serve these Turkey Burgers
Note that these meals will last for up to four days in the fridge in your sealed meal prep containers of choice!
You can freeze extra turkey burger patties to make in the future for up to three months. Make sure to thaw them out in the fridge the day before cooking! We like doubling up recipes like this. The freezer is your friend. (We love freezer meal preps, too!)
This meal reheats well in the microwave or you can reheat turkey burgers on the stove for a few minutes. If you opt for the stove, they do tend to get a little more crispy if the pan is hot. You can also reheat them gently in the oven if they’re loosely wrapped in foil. Try them at 350 degrees F for 10-15 minutes.
To reheat this meal, I simply took the veggies out and reheated the burgers and fries for a minute or two, then added the veggies back. Yes, the fries got soft because of the raw veggies next to them. If that’s something you don’t want to happen, don’t add the veggies until right before you eat (just pre-chop them and put them in a container in the fridge).
You can also pop these fries into the air fryer to reheat them but do so at a lower temperature than what you’d roast them at—anywhere around 350 to 375 would be good—and just for a few minutes. Sometimes, if I have leftover homemade fries I simply pop them into a cast iron skillet with a dab of olive oil and crisp them up that way. It depends on how I am feeling!

Turkey Burgers With Sweet Potato Fries Meal Prep
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 400 F.
-
Toss the potato wedges in a bowl with the olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. Add cayenne or crushed red pepper, to taste, if you like them spicy! Transfer to a baking sheet prepped with foil or cooking spray and bake for 30 mins, flipping halfway.
-
In a big bowl, combine the ground turkey, green onion, salt and pepper, onion powder, cumin and cayenne (add any other spices you like here to mix it up!). Mix until combined, then form four patties with your hands.
-
Heat a skillet over a medium flame for 2-3 minutes, then add the oil and let it heat up for 1-2 mins. Then add the patties. Let them cook about 7-9 minutes on each side. I had to flip mine a few times but try not to handle them too much.
-
Place the patties on the lettuce, stack the red onion and tomato next to them, then add the potato wedges. Let cool for 30 mins before placing in the fridge. Eat within 4 days and top with your garnishes and sauce before eating!
