A Long Time Coming

I’d known about Devil Fruit Tea Studio for months but hadn’t made my way over. Funny enough, I wrote about Korean-style corn dogs more than 15 years ago—long before this place even existed. So when Marcela and I were running errands around Westchester and hit a wall trying to figure out what to eat, the idea finally popped into my head: Let’s hit Devil Fruit Tea Studio.

The shop is themed after the long-running anime series One Piece. That reference goes over my head—I’m more of a Voltron or Fist of the North Star kind of guy. Still, I can appreciate great food and cool concepts when I see them.

Marcela walked up to the outdoor kiosk and placed our order while I stayed in the car, scrolling through social media. That’s where our little street food-style experience began.

Signature Drinks With an Anime Twist

Marcela went straight for the Fire Fist specialty drink. It’s a bold mango and pineapple smoothie with crystal boba, lime chili, and a secret spicy devil sauce. Boba and smoothies aren’t my thing, so this one was all hers—but let me tell you, she loved it. She downed that drink faster than you can say, “Straw Hat Pirates.”

The Snack Game is Strong

We stuck to our usual strategy—order the things we both have a high chance of liking. That meant Japanese popcorn chicken, a cheese corn dog, a regular corn dog, and that Fire Fist smoothie.

The popcorn chicken was tempura-battered and crispy, like an elevated chicken nugget. The honey mustard dipping sauce was surprisingly great—none of that watered-down stuff you find at fast food joints. There are solid bites all around.

Then came the Devil Corndogs. The cheese corn dog wasn’t a corn dog, just a thick slab of stretchy cheese coated and fried. I chose a potato breading with ranch drizzle, hoping to replicate cheese fries. It’s not bad, but it’s probably not the best combo I could’ve gone with. Next time, I’ll try the half-and-half version.

The actual corn dog? It’s a whole different story. We chose panko coating, topped it with Hot Cheetos, and finished it with their spicy cheese sauce. I don’t even like Hot Cheetos, and I still loved it. This was an explosion of flavor and exactly what we hoped for.

While there’s not much seating—hence the car-dining—Devil Fruit Tea Studio nails the street food vibe. The outdoor kiosk ordering is quick, and the food is packaged to go. The inside of the shop is decked out in One Piece merch and memorabilia. It’s fun, quirky, and ideal for anime fans or anyone looking for something different.

Next time? I’m returning for the half-and-half corn dog, adding some gyozas and takoyaki to the order.
