Jack’s Old Fashion Hamburger House: A South Florida Landmark • Burger Beast

If you’re searching for a no-frills burger joint where the grill does the talking and the decor hasn’t changed since the ’70s, Jack’s Old Fashion Hamburger House is exactly where you want to be.

A staple in South Florida since 1972, Jack’s has fed generations of loyal fans in Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach with honest-to-goodness burgers made the right way: ground fresh daily and cooked on a seasoned flat-top.

Forget the smash burger trend or over-the-top toppings—Jack’s is a time capsule of simpler (and tastier) burger days.

The original Jack’s in Fort Lauderdale is housed in a former Burger Chef building—making it a hidden gem for burger history buffs.

A second location opened in Pompano Beach just a year later, and at their peak in the late ’70s, there were four Jack’s locations across Broward.

While only two remain today, Jack’s has stood the test of time as a proud representative of South Florida’s burger roots.

Jack’s doesn’t drown your burger in aiolis or arugula. Instead, you choose your patty size—Jack Jr. (¼ lb), Original (⅓ lb), or Big Jack (½ lb)—then hit the self-serve toppings bar to dress it up your way. Lettuce, tomato, and onions are handed to you in a resealable sandwich bag, letting you customize at your leisure.

And yes, the beef is ground fresh daily on the premises—a claim most joints can’t honestly make anymore. The result? A burger with a glorious crust, juicy interior, and melted white cheese that clings to every bite.

The interior is pure vintage: laminated booths, old jukebox tunes, and walls that could tell stories if they had a mouth. Jack’s feels like the kind of place your parents took you after a little league game—and it still is.

Not feeling a burger? Go for a grilled cheese, crispy crinkle fries (pro tip: order them chili cheese style), or a chili dog topped with their excellent chili (though the hot dog itself is just okay).

Wash it all down with one of their thick milkshakes, which have earned loyal fans of their own.
