2023 Horse & Plow Draft Horse Red, North Coast
Tasting Notes: This Old-World red blend of Old Vine Carignane and Grenache comes from vineyards in the North Coast. The grapes were picked by hand, 75% were de-stemmed with 25% Whole Cluster, and cold soaked for 5-10 days. We fermented each lot using native yeast in small open-top tanks, punch-down by hand, and aged in French Oak barrels. This wine is not fined or filtered. It has complex notes of boysenberry and earth, is rich and velvety on the palate, and finishes with fine tannins and balanced acidity.

The 2023 Horse & Plow Draft Horse Red opens with very pleasing aromas of dark fruit and spice plus a little boysenberry, licorice, mint and earth. A touch of a meaty note along with some other interesting layers come out with time in the glass.
The medium-bodied wine tastes smooth with a pleasing mouthfeel and features great depth and balance. Full of juicy fruit and other flavors similar to the nose, this is very harmonious. A bit of well integrated spice builds on the mid-palate and last all the way through the very satisfying finish. Easy to drink and with plenty of complexity, this is sure to elevate your everyday.
It ends dry, quite long and a bit grippy and was even slightly better on day 2. We love this and put it at the high end of our 9 Taste Rating (92-93 points).
