19 Nov Please The Palate Wine of the Week: BoaVentura de Caires Winery 2020 Venture Red Wine – Iberian Blend
Family, heritage, and bold flavors come together in the BoaVentura de Caires Winery 2020 Venture Red Wine, an Iberian-inspired blend from Livermore Valley, California. Named after Brett and Monique Caires’ son, Venture, who carries forward the legacy of the family’s wine-loving patriarch, this inky, rounded red is a tribute to tradition and hands-on craftsmanship, making the BoaVentura de Caires Winery 2020 Venture Red Wine – Iberian Blend the Please The Palate Wine of the Week.

About BoaVentura Winery
Brett Caires, a self-made realtor, chef, and winemaker, grew up immersed in wine culture, learning appreciation and storytelling from his grandfather, BoaVentura Baptiste de Caires. On April 29, 1999, Brett and his wife Monique realized their dream of owning a winery by purchasing a five-acre property atop a sunny ridge in the southeast corner of Livermore Valley. Formerly part of a 360-acre ranch and farmed by local wine families, the property now hosts the Caires vineyard. The century-old farmhouse serves as their home, while the rustic barn is a gathering space for tastings, celebrations, and family moments.
BoaVentura Winery produces estate-grown wines with meticulous, hands-on techniques. Grapes are hand-picked by family and friends, and every bottle reflects the passion, heritage, and artisanal spirit of the Caires family.

Tasting Notes
The 2020 Venture Red is an Iberian-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Souzao, Tinta Amarela, Tinto Cão, and Touriga Nacional. Dark, inky, and smooth, it showcases the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the vibrant fruit, spice, and traditional character of Portuguese varietals. Crafted in a style honoring Brett’s grandfather and great-grandfather, the wine embodies family, legacy, and the adventurous spirit captured in its name – Venture.
Food Pairing
A big, savory wine, it is a great wine for grilled meats or roasted lamb. I enjoyed it with grilled skirt steak with za’atar over a bead of rice with roasted cauliflower and brussels sprouts.
Where To Purchase
