If you think tequila is only for margaritas, this creamy cocktail will change your mind. I don’t even like tequila (thanks, college), but I love Tequila Cream Cocktails!
A Tequila Cream Cocktail is an indulgent cocktail with a hint of sweetness. Three ingredients are all it takes to create this sweet and creamy cocktail: Tequila cream, Kahlúa, and heavy cream.

Think of it as a White Russian Cocktail with an extra luxurious twist with tequila cream. Once you try it, you might not go back to vodka. I know I’m not.
It’s smooth, rich, and just strong enough—the perfect drink to wind down the evening. Whether you’re hosting friends or treating yourself, this Tequila Cream Cocktail (Mexican White Russian) is an ideal after-dinner drink you will keep coming back to.
Tequila Cream Cocktails in Tulum

We’ve been to Tulum with our kids twice in the last three years, and both times, we stayed at the beautiful Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya All-Inclusive Resort. This resort has plenty of activities for kids and adults, including 13 restaurants and bars, a water park, a playground, and daily entertainment.
On our first trip, it wasn’t until our final night that we dined at its upscale Mexican restaurant. Our server recommended their twist on a White Russian cocktail made with tequila cream.
I was skeptical since I dislike tequila, but I love a good White Russian. And really, when is a better time to try something new than at an all-inclusive resort? So, I ordered the Tequila Cream Cocktail, aka the Mexican White Russian.
Alas, it was absolutely delicious! It was smooth, perfectly sweet, and there was not a hint of that harsh tequila flavor I was expecting.
I ordered at least one more that night and left the trip with only one regret—not discovering that Tequila Cream Cocktail sooner.

Fast-forward two years, we returned to the Hilton Tulum to explore more of the Riviera Maya. This time, we filled our days with fun activities in Akumal. As much as I was excited for new adventures, I was even more excited to order that cocktail again.
It didn’t take long before I had my favorite cocktail in hand… then another… and another. Eventually, I lost count and came home with no regrets this time, especially since I asked the bartender how to make it.
It turns out that it’s surprisingly simple. Now I make it all the time because, as much as I love Tulum, it’s definitely more affordable to shake one up in my kitchen than fly to Mexico every two years!
What Is Tequila Cream?

Tequila Cream is a rich, velvety liqueur made from tequila and dairy cream. It’s similar to Baileys but with a bold Mexican twist. It’s slightly sweet, ultra-smooth, and incredibly versatile.
Brands such as 1921 have a signature tequila cream made with blanco tequila, coffee, vanilla, cinnamon, nuts, and chocolate. Padrino Tequila (our family favorite) has a variety of tequila cream flavors such as coffee, chocolate, lime, strawberry, and vanilla chai.

Tequila cream is gaining popularity everywhere, and people enjoy it in various ways. You can add a splash to morning coffee (that’s one way to start your day!), pour it over ice for a simple after-dinner drink, or mix it into cocktails like this one. However you serve it, tequila cream adds a touch of indulgence without being overpowering.
