Last weekend TGI Fridays launched a brand new menu to coincide with American Independence Day. We visited the restaurant in Xscape in Castleford. There is LOADS to do in Xscape and we have reviewed some of the fun activities here.
It’s been a long time since I visited a TGIs and I have clearly been missing out. It’s a fab restaurant with cool Americana themed decor, huge booths and even huger portions! We were looked after by Jordan who was great fun and made sure our bottomless cokes were always filled up.
On our table when we arrived was some complimentary popcorn and we were each brought a complimentary peach iced tea (which I wasn’t sure about, but was lovely!)
Now, I am going to mention all the dishes we ordered, so you can see photos, but you can also scroll down to the end of the review to see all the menus and prices. We began our meal with some great starters including some items from the new menu – Chicken wings with Friday’s Legendary Glaze. You can choose your own sauce from a selection of six and you can choose regular wings or boneless wings.
We also tried the new cheese donuts which were wonderfully savoury and cheesy (and a bit of a novelty!).
Another great cheese starter was these Mozzarella planks.
My eldest went for the Calamari. After we ordered it transpired that he thought calamari was prawns. Didn’t matter though as he still loved them.
Finally Mr Wonders went for Fridays sesame chicken strips:
For mains my eldest teen went for the Ultimate Cheese Dipper Burger (triple stacked burgers with mozzarella planks, melted cheese and bacon). This was huge – I don’t think the photo does it justice!
I chose the BBQ Beef short rib on a sizzling platter. It was served with four tortillas and lots of accompaniments.
Mr Wonders chose the beef short rib mac and cheese. I think he was surprised just how much mac and cheese there was!
My youngest teen chose the Cajun Spiced Blackened Salmon.
We also had a couple of sides of mac and cheese:
and these fabulous Santa Monica Loaded Fries (a meal in themselves!)
I know you won’t believe it, but we also ordered desserts! The star of the show was this Salted Caramel and Chocolate Brownie Sundae which was magnificent. Hopefully the photo shows the scale of the thing – it was definitely plenty for two!
Mr Wonders had a more modest Mississippi Mud Pie.
While my youngest teen chose the Vanilla Cheesecake with Oreo pieces.
There was a LOT of food – but don’t worry, if you can’t manage it all they will bring you containers to take it away!

Finally, here are all the menu photos I promised:
We were invited to visit for the purposes of this review. As always, all opinions expressed are my own.
