Craved by the Alien Berserker: Warrior Mates of Zivon, Book 9 by Presley Hall

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

He’s brutal and terrifying, but he would protect me with his life.

After Samantha and Raza took care of the Kruul scout, we thought we’d be safe on this new planet. But we were wrong. And when the Kruul who have been hunting us show up en masse and take the Zivonians and the human women captive—only Tyrek and I manage to escape.

Tyrek…the savagely fierce alien warrior who makes my heart beat faster, and who seems to be hiding a dark secret. The one I’ve harbored a hidden crush on, even though I have absolutely zero experience with men, and have barely been able to muster up the courage to talk to him.

Now, we’re partners in an insane, suicidal mission to rescue our friends and bring down the Kruul once and for all. And even though everyone has always seen me as innocent and sheltered, I’m determined to show Tyrek that beneath my sweet exterior is a spine of steel.

I’ll prove to him that I’m not afraid…

Not of the enemies we’ll face.

And not of the beast that lurks inside him.

Craved by the Alien Berserker

It’s all just a big misunderstanding!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚💜💙🩷
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 😒🤩😀🙂
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Callie – she is a human female who was abducted from Earth by aliens, rescued, and ended up on a doomed ship and now she is a colonist on an alien planet with all kinds of dangers. She has a great attitude about her lot in life, since everyone who loved her back on Earth were gone, with her father having died of lung cancer six months before she was taken. She had sacrificed everything in her life to take care of her father, and she likes the fact that she has a chance at a new and different life.

The Hero: Tyrek – he is a Zivonian warrior, one of the best and most brutal. When a large creature nearly attacks Callie, he viciously kills the creature to save her. When he goes into a battle rage, he has trouble controlling it and getting out of it. He thinks Callie is the most beautiful of all the Terran females, but he doesn’t think he can have her since his nature is so uncontrollable, and she is so fragile and breakable. Though the other Zivonians know how to calm him when he is in a rage. He knows if she ever saw him in a true blood rage, she would be afraid of him.

The Story: Some of the others had come across a Kruul scout and had killed him. They hoped it was before he was able to communicate their location with the rest of the enemy, but when the Kruul arrive and attack, Callie and Tyrek have to fight for their lives. She sees how effective he can be as the Kruul keep coming and Tyrek slaughters them one after another. When Callie collapses because of her injuries, it helps Tyrek get out of the bloodlust.

Callie’s resilience and her ability to embrace her new life really set her apart from the usual alien romance heroines. It’s refreshing to see a protagonist who doesn’t dwell on despair but instead views her situation as an opportunity. Callie was a homebody while on Earth since she had spent years taking care of her sick father. She is inexperienced with men and has a crush on Tyrek, though she hadn’t known how to talk to him until they had to work together to save their friends.

Tyrek’s internal battle with his blood rage adds an intriguing layer to his character. The contrast between his brutal warrior nature and his fear that Callie will see him as a monster creates rich tension. It’s interesting that his ability to escape the bloodlust is tied to her—it suggests an emotional connection even deeper than attraction. The book ended up having too many intimate scenes for me to give it any higher than 4 stars, I tend to like more story than smut, unless I am in a smutty kind of mood.

This audiobook was told in multiple perspectives, done in dual narration and narrated by Stefanie Kay and C.J. Grey. both are very good narrators. C.J. Grey has a deep, gravelly voice which works well for alien romance. Stefanie Kay has a clear, feminine voice and sounds the right age for the heroine.
