The Daily Grind: Which MMO would be most improved by an engine overhaul in 2025?
On MOP, we can seldom go and single day without someone in the comments wondering when a specific MMO will get an engine upgrade or overhaul. The games always change, of course, but the sentiment remains. Just in the last few weeks, I’ve seen people suggest it for Star Wars Galaxies, Lord of the Rings Online, City of Heroes, New World, and Project Gorgon.
Of course, most of these are are either painfully indie, rogue servers, or very clearly lacking in the kind of resources that would make such a move profitable, so it’s not going to happen. I’m never sure the people asking really understand what the request entails; just look at Fractured as an example, as it’s offline for the better part of a year for such an endeavor.
Still, I’m sure we all harbor an irrationally hope like this. Which MMO would be most improved by an engine overhaul in 2025?
