JOVITA WORE PANTS w/ Molly Mendoza and Aida Salazar
Once in a while we get the opportunity to talk with a recent award winner for The Yarn podcast, and it’s always a little extra special. Molly Mendoza won a 2024 Caldecott Honor for Jovita Wore Pants: The Story of a Mexican Freedom Fighter, and I talked with her and author Aida Salazar about how the book came to be.
In the episode, we learn that the story has a deep family connection for Aida Salazar, and we get some behind the scenes details on how Molly Mendoza made the artwork (and what it was like to get The Call from the Caldecott committee).
