The Bosch franchise kicked off in 2014, and almost a decade later, the original series and its spinoff sequel are over. But a new spinoff show has just debuted to thrilling reviews.
Ballard, which premiered on Prime Video on July 9, follows Detective Renée Ballard, played by Maggie Q, a character introduced in Bosch: Legacy Season 3. The series was a massive streaming success after its debut, surpassing titles like Countdown to get to the top of the charts. Still, the Bosch spinoff has finally run out of steam and was replaced by The Summer I Turned Pretty, FlixPatrol reveals.

Unlike the release strategies Prime Video uses for its television shows, the Bosch replacement released all 10 episodes at once. The police procedural drama was an instant hit and attracted a lot of attention on streaming, securing its legacy at the top of the charts for over a week.
However, all good things must come to an end. Even though it lost its position at number one, Ballard is still widely popular on the streaming service and has cemented itself in second place. The series is the third entry in the Bosch universe, which is based on Michael Connelly’s novels from the bestselling book series of the same name.
The new spinoff comes with a welcome change because, unlike its predecessors, Ballard doesn’t center around Titus Welliver’s Harry Bosch and has a female protagonist. However, Welliver is still around and shows up in the new spinoff in a guest-starring capacity. Created by Michael Alaimo and Kendall Sherwood, Ballard stars Maggie Q, John Caroll Lynch, Courtney Taylor, Michael Mosley, Rebecca Field, Victoria Moroles, and Amy Hill.
Ballard also continues an exciting Rotten Tomatoes trend for the franchise. The first two entries had a great reception and positive reviews. The original series, which aired between 2014 and 2021, had an overall 97% approval score from critics and 94% from audiences. The spinoff series Bosch: Legacy had a perfect 100% score from critics and a still-extraordinary 86% from audiences.

The new entry doesn’t disappoint either. Ballard features a perfect 100% score, too, out of 12 reviews. However, it features the lowest audience score so far at 76%, which is still more than enthusiastic. So far, Prime Video hasn’t weighed in on whether the series will receive a second season, despite its popularity on the platform. However, it has received an encouraging update about its future.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Is Currently In Its Third Season
The coming-of-age romantic drama The Summer I Turned Pretty is an adaptation of Jenny Han’s bestselling novel trilogy of the same name. The series stars Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno in the leading roles. It follows Belly, a teenager who gets caught in a love triangle with brothers Conrad and Jeremiah, whom she’d known since she was young.
The newly released The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 only consists of two episodes so far, with new episodes released every Wednesday. The third and final season doesn’t have enough reviews for a Rotten Tomatoes score, but the series has an overall 75% approval score and 68% from the audience.
