Obviously the discount sign we always love to see at Costco directed our eye to this bottle on our most recent warehouse visit.
We hoped the wine would deliver because the price was certainly right ($8 off until 7/6). And it did. This is the same producer as this Rioja we tasted and reviewed (88 points) last year, also with a big discount.
But the wines are very different, with this Crianza clearly being the better choice. It also pulled down 93 points from Wine Enthusiast.
We found this to be a nice elegant Rioja with some age built in, drinking in a perfect window right now, and really opening up after a brief decant.
The wine pours a medium ruby red in the glass with aromas of red fruit, floral; the wine is medium plus in body led by red fruit, cherry, sour cherry; integrated tannins and subtle spice; very nice finish.
Quite a nice find for only $10 and just what we were hoping for.
