Beatbot Sora 30 and iSkim keep your pool clean on a budget!

When it comes to robot pool cleaners, Beatbot is one of the most respected and recognized in the industry. The brand is known for exceptional performance, design, and build quality. It also demands some of the highest prices in the market for its high-end robots. You can spend a few thousand on the high-end models. Is there a way to get Beatbot’s quality on a tighter budget?

I got the chance to test a bundle with the Beatbot Sora 30 and iSkim. This robotic team will clean your pool and surface at a more reasonable price of $1,498, with sales often bringing the price down closer to $1,000. Yes, that is for both the Sora 30 pool cleaner and the iSkim surface skimmer. Let’s talk about my experience with them and see if this bundle is the right one for you.

Because this is technically a “budget pool cleaner”, I feel like it’s important to start with what the robot can’t do for you, as opposed to what it can do. Going with a more affordable product always means making some sacrifices, after all. The real question is whether you can live without the upgrades.

The Beatbot Sora 30 is a pretty practical and straightforward robot pool cleaner. For starters, there are no fancy AI Vision features. It also has no cameras. Instead, it relies on SonicSense, which takes advantage of dual ultrasonic sensors, as well as other sensors, to navigate around obstacles, climb platforms, and more.

Additionally, unlike the higher-end models, this one also lacks skimming capabilities (but that is what the iSkim is for). You’ll notice it even lacks buttons, and that is actually one of its main features: ease of use.

You’re getting a very nicely designed robot with build quality worthy of the Beatbot name. Everything feels solid; the charger uses titanium contacts to prevent corrosion; it has an IP68 rating; and it has been tested to withstand extreme temperatures and 480 hours of salt spray exposure.

While the Beatbot Sora 30 lacks all the fancy stuff other manufacturers tout, the little it does, it does very well. Setting it up was a breeze using the Beatbot app. Charging it is also simple. All you do is insert the charger into the back port, which has a nice cover that flips when you push in the charger connection.

Once charged, using it is as easy as pie! You can use the rear toggle to pick between two modes: Standard and Floor-only. Using the Standard mode, Sora 30 delivers complete 3-in-1 coverage across the floor, walls, and waterline, while also extending cleaning to platforms and shallow areas that many competitors cannot reach. The Floor-only is pretty self-explanatory. You can also use the physical switch to turn it on.

If you use the app, there are a couple of extra modes. Wall mode covers the wall and waterline. Then there’s ECO mode, which performs quick 45-minute floor cleans and schedules cleanings every 48 hours. It’s great for general cleaning, especially if you won’t be using the pool much and would rather not charge the robot as often. I mean, you can just leave it in there.

Once the robot is on and you have picked a mode, all you need to do is throw it in the water and forget about it. Once cleaning is complete—or when the battery runs low—the Smart Surface Parking system automatically brings the robot to the water’s surface and guides it to the pool edge for effortless retrieval. The robot was great at climbing stairs and walls. In fact, it can handle shallow-water cleaning down to eight inches. Using its dual ultrasonic sensing system, the robot detects elevation changes and transitions smoothly between different pool zones—areas many robotic cleaners simply leave untouched. Since these shallow sections are often where algae first develop, cleaning them automatically reduces the need for manual scrubbing.

In terms of cleaning, it gets the job done. The 6,800 GPH (gallons per hour) suction strength is quite impressive, because that’s as strong as the AquaSense X, Beatbot’s most expensive robot pool cleaner. When I tested it, the pool looked pretty clean as it was, but the Sora 30 still picked up plenty of debris after a 3-hour cleaning session. It has a 5.2L basket, which is pretty large, too. By the way, the basket can filter 150µm debris. This is good for regular debris, but if you want it to catch even smaller particles, there is an optional 3µm basket.

Battery life is nothing to scoff at, either. That 10,000mAh battery can keep the robot running for up to five hours. That can cover up to 3,229 sqft. In my experience, the battery dropped to about 69% after the initial 2-hour cleaning session. It then took about 1.5 hours to recharge it to 100%.

All things considered, the Beatbot Sora 30 does a great job cleaning a standard home pool, and it’s super easy to use. Sure, it doesn’t target debris for faster cleaning sessions like the fancy AI-powered models, but I am usually in no rush. 2-3 hours seems like a fine time for a full cleaning session to me. I can use that time to grill or prepare some snacks!

Those who own a pool can attest that the surface is most often the dirtiest. Don’t clean it for a few days, and you will run into all kinds of bugs, foliage, and other debris that just happen to land on the water and stay there. It can get pretty yucky. Who are you going to call? The Beatbot iSkim, of course.

Given the budget price, there is a clear difference between the Beatbot Sora 30 and other robot pool cleaners. The Beatbot iSkim doesn’t suffer from this as much, though, despite having a $499 MSRP that is often cut down closer to $300 when on sale. I have used higher-end skimmers, and this one is pretty much just as functional.

There are only two real downsides here: it lacks AI debris detection, and it uses a randomized cleaning pattern rather than an S-path pattern. This is not to say the robot isn’t intelligent, though. Its movements aren’t purely random. It leverages dual ultrasonic sensors for obstacle avoidance and smart path optimization. It can also recognize edges and clean them accordingly. Smart Re-routing will ensure it moves around your pool in an optimized manner.

I found that these downsides weren’t really issues. Mainly because the Beatbot iSkim has a solar panel on top. This means it can continue cleaning as long as there is daylight. And get this: the battery can last 28 hours or more, even without sunlight.

I tested the iSkim in a pool with plenty of desert sunlight, so it charged itself during the day, even while it cleaned the pool’s surface endlessly. Then it kept skimming through the whole night, and recharged itself the next day. Yes, all with sunlight. I only plugged this thing in for a couple of hours after setting it up. The rest was all thanks to the sun’s free rays. One of its core features is that it follows the sunlight to charge more efficiently throughout the day. If the sky is cloudy on some days, you can use the same charger that comes with the Beatbot Sora 30. Pretty convenient, right?

The other great news is that it’s a pretty nice surface cleaner, too. It can clean up to 80 square meters in a couple of hours. The basket is pretty large at 9L, and Beatbot claims it can hold about 800 leaves. It filters particles larger than 550μm, which covers most debris on the pool surface.

The skimmer features self-parking, making it easy to remove when needed. And because it lives on the surface, you can always use the app to control it. Remember, robots that go underwater lose connection when submerged!

Overall, I find this a very good option, in and of itself. Sure, there are good competitors out there. I mean, even Beatbot has its higher-end iSkim Ultra, but it’s twice the price at $999 retail.

The Ultra’s main benefits are the addition of S-path cleaning and the dispensing of water clarifier. You can decide whether those features are enough to justify paying twice as much. Water clarifier dispensing may be nice, but faster, smarter skimming doesn’t make that much of a difference to me. Especially when the solar panel and long battery life ensure the robot can clean all day and night without stopping. I would just keep it working whenever I am not using the pool. There is no rush. And again, you’re getting Beatbot-quality at half the price!

By now, most of the tech industry has agreed that Beatbot robots are among the best pool cleaners you can get. They hold a high standard in design, build quality, performance, great features, and hefty price tags. The brand has started offering much more affordable options, though. The Sora 30 and iSkim are pure testament to this, offering a complete pool-cleaning solution for $1,498, and the bundle is discounted to just $1,018 as I write this.

These look and feel as good as other Beatbot robots. They can navigate around a pool efficiently and clean very well. In a way, they don’t fall behind in offering an approach that can be pretty hands-off, and they are very simple to operate. This, in part, is thanks to their lack of fancier features. Don’t expect AI Vision functionality as you find in high-end models, but the intelligent ultrasonic navigation works great, and you’ll get complete pool coverage, including platforms. Do expect premium engineering that delivers dependable cleaning with remarkably little effort.

Overall, I say this duo will mostly shine at a regular home with an average-sized home pool. If you have the patience to let the Beatbot Sora 3 do a full session, and can just let the iSkim do its thing when the pool isn’t in use, it will be a great addition to your environment. All while keeping costs down, which is essential in this economy.
