Cherry XTRFY K63W Pro Compact Ultra-Wideband Keyboard

I am not someone who is heavily invested in Wireless keyboards, although RGB Steel Keyboards are something that I have used in the past, I have always gone back to the standard office keyboard for a variety of reasons, the heavy clicking of the metal keys themselves, the fading due to poor quality, keys themselves becoming loose and broke and this was a real issue when you needed to replace a single key. I’ve never had a keyboard that I would say ticks all the boxes but I can say the Cherry XTRFY K63W Pro Compact Ultra-Wideband has been a blessing.

Setup of the keyboard is real simple and in the box itself you receive a wireless dongle that can be dethatched from the keyboard once fully charged. This can be plugged into your computer using the USB-A and despite it saying on the small box that it should face a certain side I never felt that with it hidden behind my computer that this was an issue. When the keyboard is charged the USB-C cable can be removed and instead put into the wireless dongle and placed elsewhere, you are then able to switch the Cherry XTRFY K63W Pro Compact Ultra-Wideband into wireless mode, from here on out the keyboard is completely connected and can be moved if needed.

The Cherry XTRFY K63W Pro Compact Ultra-Wideband is highly lightweight but also enough to stay grounded to any desk. While I would say that getting used to this type of compact keyboard took some getting used to, I was even able to write this review at ease, the keys are soft but pack enough feedback, they are not metallic keys are much more quiet than any metal or standard keyboards that I have used in the past and if you are someone that like to touch type you will feel that quietness even more. Now this is a compact keyboard so you are completely missing the number pad on the far right of the keyboard itself. As someone who uses the dedicated arrow key I was able to download the Cherry Utility Software to change the Shift and Ctrl key to use as arrow functions easily, from here you can also change various setting including the RGB settings including how the lights display across the keyboard, each key can be individually lit up to the colour of your choosing if you so wish.

The Cherry XTRFY K63W Pro Compact Ultra-Wideband is the world’s first gaming keyboard with an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) connection and unlike traditional 2.4-GHz wireless connections which share frequencies with over devices, as the Cherry XTRFY UWB transmits these frequencies over a larger area meaning this would have a more stable connection where wireless signals are highly present.

The Battery Life is where this thing really excels, as someone that uses keyboards often and sometimes for long gaming sessions, outage of power is something that would be a real concern, The Cherry XTRFY K63W Pro Compact Ultra-Wideband really isn’t a concern for me. It does promise 1100 hours of battery life and under certain conditions I really believe that it could reach this gargantuan amount of time before needing to recharge, as someone that has had it a week after being charged the keyboard is still running on battery although naturally if you use the LED settings and a high Polling Rate you can expect the battery life to be lower but not ridiculously low. If you are worried about the keyboard going off during a heavy gaming session then it isn’t a worry as the keyboard warns you in doing so in a manner which will not interrupt you, the LED lights will turn off and even at this point the keyboard can still be used for hours before you are in any danger of being disconnected.
