What is Coco Beach?

Coco Beach is a restaurant located on a private island just off the northwest coast of Moorea. Coco beach is a family run restaurant on Motu Tiahura. It is a gorgeous location for lunch, as it’s surrounded by the gorgeous blue water and the mountains of Moorea.

How to get to Coco Beach from Moorea?

There are a few different ways you can get from Moorea to Coco Beach.

1. You can book a boat transfer when you book your reservation with Coco beach directly.

For anyone booking the lunch reservation, you can also add-on the boat transfer directly with Coco Beach. The price is 500 XPF/person for round trip transfer. This will be paid at the restaurant when you settle your bill. This needs to be booked in advance. This is what we did when we went to Coco Beach.

2. You can book a separate boat transfer. If you don’t want to book directly with Coco Beach, you can book a different boat transfer to get to Coco Beach.

3. You can take a paddle board, jet-ski, or kayak over to Coco Beach. You are more than welcome to find your own transportation (I.e. paddle board, jet ski or kayak) to Coco Beach, as it’s not very far from Les Tipaniers Beach.

We booked the boat transfer when we booked our reservation and it worked out great! We booked the 10:30 time slot, we arrived at the Coco beach parking lot around 10:15am and got one of the last parking spots. So if you get there a little later, you may have to park on the street.

The boat ride takes about 10 minutes to get to Coco beach and it’s a very scenic and easy ride. At the parking lot, you will board the boat from a wooden dock, but when you get to Coco beach you will be entering straight into the water, so we recommend wearing water shoes as you enter the water it’s pretty rocky.

Arriving at Coco Beach

Once arriving at Coco Beach, you are free to choose your table for lunch. There are about 6-8 tables right at the edge of the water, more tables in the middle right on the sand, and a bunch of tables up on the deck by the kitchen facing the water. There have music and a speaker playing, so it’s a really fun, chill vibe.

Once you’re seated, they will come give you a menu, and then take your order, when you’re ready.

You can walk around the island, but the whole island is not reserved for Coco Beach. It looks like there are a few other businesses, as there were “Private” signs.

Coco Beach food and drinks

We found the prices at Coco beach to be very reasonable. Obviously you’re on a private island and it is French Polynesia, so it’s not going to be cheap, but we felt it was fair.

We spent 11,450 XFP (about 114$) and that included 2 transfers, 1 Ti-punch, 1 spicy margarita, 3 beers, 1 lemonade, 1 virgin mojito, and a sashimi plate with rice. We feel like that’s about even with what we’d spend on a nice fish place in the United States.

Things to know before visiting Coco Beach

Coco Beach is only open from Wednesdays-Sundays from 11-2pm. The boat will shuttle to the restaurant between 10am-2pm, and from the restaurant back to the parking area from 1pm-3pm weekdays, and 1pm-4pm on weekends. For this reason, we recommend booking the earliest time possible, so you can maximize your time at the island.

If you are taking the Coco beach boat transfer, the parking lot can get full, so plan to arrive early. We recommend booking the earliest time online, and also getting to the parking lot earlier as the parking lot does get full.

Is Coco Beach worth it?

We had a great time at Coco Beach restaurant and thought it was one of the best things to do in Moorea. It is a super relaxed time at coco beach restaurant, the food is good, and the water right there at the private island is amazing! You’ll see some sting-rays and maybe even some reef sharks while you’re eating lunch. When you’re visiting Moorea, we definitely recommend taking the day trip to visit Coco Beach.
